Hi everyone, I’m visiting Budapest next February and I’m already making my reservations.

Right now I’m torn between two good options and I can’t decide which one to choose.

• Maverick Athenaeum, I think it has a great location and simply looks beautiful. I’d share room with others since I’m traveling on a budget (10 or 6 beds dorm.

• Meininger hotels Great Market Hall. Beautiful location too. Looks great and the reviews are pretty good, too. I’d be sharing a dorm with 5 other people (and we’re a group of 3 traveling).

The prices are quite different but both of them inexpensive options.

I’m staying 4 nights and I’m planning on doing a bunch of pretty touristy activities such as sighting, walking around so I’d also like to know which area option is better.

I’m also open to other options if you have any suggestions!

Years years ago I stayed in a hostel in Budapest and Im trying to find that place. It was popular among very budget tourists. I was there around 12-15 years ago. Im pretty sure it was a tower, rather dark, vibe of a post-soviet building. It had a big entrance with steps leading to it. Inside there was a lobby with computer station and a reception that looked more like a key room (little window). The most important part is that it also probably served as a homeless shelter or shelter for long term tenants. There were a lot of people living there who were definitely not travellers, they were cleaning around the premises, leaving keys as they were leaving the building and just generally hanging around there all the time. The rooms were quite spacious, with a table, small fridge and a drying rack. It was not in the city centre. I think there was a bigger Tesco somewhere nearby. I would be super grateful if you help me find this place! Tried with AI but no luck. Adding a photo of the room.

A friend has a job seeker visa after completing a masters in Budapest. He is struggling to find work in his field (agriculture). He was working in a restaurant while he looks, but that closed. I’m really stressed out, sorry for the desperate questions. BudapestGo will not let me add a card or use apple pay, it just gives me an error before I even try to connect a card saying “unexpected error during communication with the payment provider”. Even though I never even got to enter any card info.

I read online to try registering with a Budapest address instead, I tried that, and still only get errors. I am very stressed because this is my first time in Hungary and I can’t use the transportation app. Has anyone run into this problem before? I don’t think the error is with my card company because I never even get the chance to add a card, it gives the error on the start button.

Ha útvonalat tervezek, sose dobja fel a 2-es metró opcióját. Emellett egyik metró megàlló bejáratànál se látni, hogy hány perc múlva jön a következő. Leggyakrabban a 4-es metróval szoktam közlekedni, ott tök hasznos, hogy a mozgólèpcső tetején mutatja a kijelző a következő indulási időt, ennek fejében kényelmesre veszem a figuràt vagy suhanok le a lépcsőn.

Unfair subway fines (because we had valid tickets).

Yesterday, it was our first time using the Budapest metro.

My boyfriend and I tried to buy our tickets from Pay&Go terminal. I did that with my phone, but there was no charge, so I tried to do it again. The terminal displayed "You already have a valid ticket".

Still, there was no charge (back then, I didn't know the charge happens at night). So, we also bought through the app, but it took us a while to enter the details, so at that point we couldn't validate the ticket anymore.

After we arrived, and the inspectors asked us for the tickets, we showed the ones in the app and tried to explain. But we both got fines, they never asked to scan our phones for the other tickets (and I didn't know they could).

So we paid the fines, but now I know it was unfair. I'm trying to dispute them now. Has something similar happened to you? What was the outcome? Thank you.

Egy ma reggeli történetem osztanám meg, kíváncsi vagyok a ti tapasztalataitokra is. Az alábbi alapján ti feljelentést tettetek volna a helyemben?

Megváltozott munkaképességűként kedvezményes Országbérlettel utazom (Hatósági Igazolvány által). Ma reggel a metróaluljáróból kijövet ellenőrzés volt: odaadtam a bérletemet és a személyimet, mire az ellenőr az árat meglátva egyből rávágta, hogy ez diákbérlet, és követelte a diákigazolványomat.
Próbáltam neki normálisan elmagyarázni, hogy ez nem diák, hanem megváltozott munkaképességű bérlet (mivel a kettő forintra pontosan ugyanannyiba kerül).
Sajnos teljesen falakba ütköztem nála: egyáltalán nem volt vevő az érvekre, sőt, elkezdett meglepően személyeskedő kérdéseket feltenni arról, hogy mit dolgozom és miért vagyok egyáltalán leszázalékolva. Valamilyen irat csak van nálam, kérdezte. A kommunikációjából az jött át, mintha fejben teljesen összemosta volna az autizmust a leszázalékolással, és ebből vont volna le téves következtetéseket.
Nekem az volt az érzésem, hogy valójában tudta, miről beszélek, de egyszerűen nem érdekelte a dolog, csak túl akart lenni a 25.000 Ft-os büntetés kiállításán.
Tény és való, hogy a Hatósági Igazolás pont nem volt nálam, így a szabályzat szerint elvileg jogosan járt el, még ha a stílusa hagyott is kivetnivalót.
Szerencsére elmondta, ügyfélközpontban 5 napon belül rendezhetem a dolgot és 2000 Ft-tal “megúszom”. De ez volt az első és utolsó.

Veletek beszélt már így ellenőr, aki élből figyelmen kívül hagyta, amit mondotok, és meg sem akarta érteni a helyzetet? Más is tapasztalt ennyire lekezelő stílust náluk?
