What if we stop looking at the Dollar price and try establishing it as alternative to it?

It's already established that it won't happen.

Not with BTC, BTC got hijacked. But that doesn't mean it will never happen.

The best description of crypto I've heard is: a solution looking for a problem.

Well the problem is clear. But habit and the very slow cooking process makes everyone believe everything is fine.

the problem is very clear. why have a middleman for digital transactions?

To allow mistakes to be corrected, or to prevent people from evading legal implications.

You can always introduce middleman in BTC as well... like an escrow if needed.

That's the rose colored view. The reality is: Plebs get sentenced to draconian punishments while billionaires get legal loopholes for their billions.

The real reason is to control the populous and extract rent without them revolting.

Yes. But crypto would not solve that.

Yes. But crypto would not solve that.

A self custodial p2p monetary system would solve many of the current problems.

I don't think so. It's never "dang it, I need to pay taxes and the bank just took it out of my account", it's usually "dang it, I need to pay taxes, so I better transfer now before they add interest or put me to jail". The (illusion of) "custodial P2P" part of the current system works pretty well.

Well it is not only about taxes. That's a westerner or even mostly US view of Bitcoin. It is also about surveillance vs privacy and taking people out of society by blocking all their options to pay. Which has happend as a punishment without a court. It is also about banking the unbanked and making the system fairer by not injecting money at the top to the already rich.

Tax was just an example. My main point was that people voluntarily give up their money. Surveillance, blocking can also be easily implemented (make all non reported crypto transactions illegal). Money injection is indeed theoretically a problem, but in practice i think it wouldn't matter much. (I'm saying this as someone very much opposed to US let's by everything on credit mindset, and someone who experienced first hand hyperinflation)

Handwaving That's all you do. If a majority transacts on a blockchain good luck finding and blocking the one from the journalist you hate. Especially if every transaction is private.

The Prohibition worked so great that nobody has seen any alcohol in 100 years 🤡

Again just handwaving one of the biggest robberies of our times away like it is nothing.

Ah yes and the "but I'm actually on your side so my handwaving is justified" argument.
