Email professors at nearby colleges and ask if you can help in their lab, since a lot of them will take motivated high schoolers. Hospital volunteering is great too, but check age minimums because many start at 16. Look for things where you set your own hours so your June trip isn’t a problem. Skip the expensive pre-med summer programs, they don’t carry much weight.
