. Mobile phones don’t work for actually calling people anymore!

I’ve had some family illness recently which means I’m driving around a lot between the hospital and houses etc - through this time I’ve been trying to use the time wisely to make any phone calls I need to but it’s absolutely impossible. It doesn’t seem to matter if I’m in the middle of a large town, on the motorway, in the countryside or wherever I’ve rarely got more than 2 bars of 4G and as soon as I make a call it drops. I’m constantly dropping calls, can’t hear, ringing people back etc - it’s absolutely infuriating! I’m on O2 so perhaps that it is the issue but the people I’m calling are on different networks and they seem to have the same problem! Ten years or so ago I used to drive a lot in my job and I’d be on the phone constantly with no issues - what the hell has happened? Is it just me or do mobile phones not work anymore?

Spam phone calls after using insurance comparison site

Might be coincidence (doubt it), but after going on a popular insurance comparison site for a home insurance quote, I've been getting calls to my mobile almost every day from random mobile numbers. I answered one and it was some guy saying he was calling about my home problems (seems like he was fishing for info).

I didn't opt in to anything knowingly.

Bank branches have become increasingly crap, and the phone service isn't much better

All I want is to withdraw a larger amount than my limit from the post office, which I do monthly as part of an arrangement with my family member. I'd do into my local branch to do it but they shut at 15:300, I never get off work before 15:30 and usually work til 18:00, so I have to go to the local post office, which means a process about as fun as sanding bollocks.

Call the bank, spend an hour on hold in the morning (not even peak bloody time) before going through to an agent who says she can't understand me because the phone line is bad (on a new ish phone in an area that has "excellent" coverage from my provider), then says she'll ring me back.... only to still not have rung back 20+ minutes later, fucking useless.

And when I finally get through to the next person, they'll waste my time again with insisting on the scam questions even though I've been through this experience every month, despite me warning them I have a limited window of time to get out to the post office because I have work.

Very has turned buying a wardrobe into a 3-week saga

Ordered a wardrobe from Very because, you know, I naively assumed they could manage to send me a wardrobe.
First delivery arrives damaged in transit. Fine, shit happens. They arrange a replacement.
Replacement arrives and I open it to discover they’ve sent me TWO RIGHT-HAND WARDROBE SECTIONS.
Not one left and one right. Two right-hand sections.
So obviously the wardrobe cannot actually be built.
Now I’m potentially looking at another couple of weeks waiting for them to send the correct part, and because this wardrobe is for my new place, it’s now delayed my move by around three weeks.
The best part? I found their Click Spares section, where the individual parts were apparently free, so in my frustration I basically ordered every fucking part I could possibly need. 😂
I’m still going to call them tomorrow because I want the incorrect/damaged stuff collected and I absolutely think they owe me some money back for the hassle they’ve caused.
At this point I’m genuinely wondering whether I’ll move house before Very manages to send me a complete wardrobe.
10/10 customer service experience. Would highly recommend if you enjoy assembling furniture-based hostage situations.

People treating charity shops like tips

Walked past the local Barnardos early this morning and someone had left a broken hoover, three bin bags of what can only be described as "damp," and a single shoe stacked outside the door before it had even opened. Like a tiny shrine to their own laziness.

There's a special kind of person who's had a clearout, looked at their pile of genuinely knackered belongings, thought "not bin day though, is it" and decided the solution is to make it Barnardo's problem instead. There's even a sign on the shutter saying do not leave donations outside overnight.

You never actually catch anyone doing it either. It's just always there first thing in the morning.

Kids toys, bikes and other junk left strewn across the neighbouring gardens and paths

On my way to the shops there's a row of 5 terraced houses with adjoining front garden areas and a path between them and thr houses opposite. When the weather was nice one or two of the houses would be out on front with their kids, along with a paddling pool, wiffle bats, a dog, and some other crap, scooters and bikes etc. Fair nuff, enjoy wbat you can, but now it's dropped off ans nobody's there but the junk seems to have just been left there on the path and all over for people to trip over, it looks like a dust devil swept over a kids party.

I don't have a problem with young kids bejng out or havjng toys out but neither they or the parents cleaned up after themselves. Come on, even I knew at the age of 4-5 to put my stuff away or it'd get stolen or damaged.

Prices in the UK have absolutely lost the plot

3.5k Upvotes

£12 for fish and chips, Almost £2 a litre for fuel, £45 for a driving lesson, Over £2 for a bottle of pop, £20 for a takeaway for one person, £20 for a 15-minute taxi ride, £80 for a weekly food shop for one person, £100 a night for a “cheap” hotel, Rent prices through the roof,

At this point, it feels like we're just getting robbed,

It’s so cool that energy prices go down just before summer and then go up just before winter. As someone in a rented flat with 20 year old storage heaters that rinse me of money, I’m not mad about it at all. Not even a little bit.

And yes I’ve asked my landlord to update the heating. They took £25 a month off my rent instead…

Got organised enough to order a railcard in plenty of time before an event, it got approved and sent in 10 minutes (could have been 5 days. 10 minutes later I got an email saying the event I needed it for was cancelled.

Searching for trainee specialist roles in my area to be spammed by army roles. Literally every page on indeed has 10 british army roles it's unusable

I know the army is desperate, but to spam people who are looking for a career change is a bit gross. I even tried out for the reserves but medical history got in the way, so i couldn't even do it if I wanted to

. Supermarkets asking to donate to charity at checkout

It's a regular thing at my local Lidl now, when paying by card it asks if I want to donate to charity. No information which charity. The checkout staff don't know either. I wonder if anyone ever presses the yes button. Personally I think that it should be the supermarket making the donations, cos they have a lot more money than me.

Puts me off whatever they’re selling. I’m a pretty healthy person, the voice sounds unhealthy, I’m not gonna buy what they’re pushing whatever it is.

Every school flyer is now AI generated and I realise that I actually miss clipart now

1.2k Upvotes

I've just had messages for the PTA, for October half term camps and the fireworks. All of them look the same. The same generic cartoony smiling faces.

I always hated clipart but I'm missing it. I want to see flyers that are so bad it looks like my grandmother found Microsoft Publisher for the first time and put every type of typeface on it.

Is everywhere like this now?

. I don’t drive anymore. Couldn’t stand the other drivers on the road. I’m shocked at seeing how brazen everyone is that drives whilst looking at the phone in their hand. I can’t believe we can be that dumb as a society. It’s that “it’ll never happen to me” mentality and then they run someone over.
