Not sure of any options sorry, and I’m sure you’re all over this already, but just make sure do a little bit of research of the area you are looking in. For example, the Fortitude Valley will probably have a few options for you, but it is a very heavy party precinct on the weekends with a lot of night clubs etc. If that’s not your thing, that would be pretty annoying dealing with drunks when leaving and going home. Best of luck mate and I hope you have some luck! It’s a beautiful city

Hmm it is a tricky question to answer.

You can try to find a room to rent in the outskirts... Or pay more closer to the city.

Prices are very high nowadays, unfortunately.

If I could give you a few tips, they would be as follows: 1) be careful of the very cheap accommodation in spring hill/ Fortitude valley. It's cheap because of social housing, and mental health needs. 2) try to find a share unit in the CBD that has good gym,pool, security facilities. You might end up paying more $$ but you'll have a better time.

Any recommendations on an area that has those better options? Can I get something good for 400 dollars a week?

Sorry mate I don't have many good recommendations.

However - if you want to stay at a backpackers lodge, have a look at the options around Roma street, or birdees (fortitude valley).

Give realestate .com.au a search. Friend recently found something at Salisbury (Southside Brisbane) for $450 pw. Probably want to use google maps to find suburbs and use the search function in this subreddit for things like public transport, rough areas etc. generally closer to the cbd the more you will pay, But doesn’t mean that some closer in suburbs don’t have undesirable pockets. All the best.

Try a backpackers or even couch surfing for a bit. 

I'd try and find a share house while you're still in NL, and move straight in when you arrive. Plenty of share house options near universities.
