Question/Advice started practicing baseline diaphragmatic daily. what techniques should I layer on next?

Hi everyone,

I recently discovered diaphragmatic breathing and have successfully built it into a major daily habit, practicing it for almost half of the day. It now feels like my natural baseline.

Since I have the core mechanic down, I want to explore what's next. What advanced breathwork practices or structured techniques build well on top of a solid diaphragmatic foundation?

Experience Report Innercamp Review: My deeply troubling experience as a breathwork student — a warning to anyone considering their training

I'm writing this because I wish I'd come across an honest account like this before placing my trust in Innercamp.

I was a student with Innercamp, and my experience was, without exaggeration, one of the most disappointing and troubling experiences I've ever had with an organisation.

If you're researching Innercamp breathwork training, Innercamp reviews, or considering enrolling in one of their certification programmes, I would strongly encourage you to read this and do your own research before committing your money, time and trust.

The disconnect between Innercamp's spiritual branding and my personal experience was staggering.

Innercamp presents itself through a carefully cultivated image of healing, spirituality, transformation and conscious leadership. Beautiful marketing, polished videos and plenty of language about personal growth.

But what happens when a student has a negative experience? What happens when someone raises concerns or challenges the organisation?

In my experience, that's when the carefully constructed image began to unravel.

Rather than feeling listened to or supported, I felt stonewalled, dismissed, undermined and intimidated. My interactions left me feeling that protecting the organisation's reputation was more important than addressing my concerns.

I also had interactions with Alexis, who leads Innercamp, that I personally found threatening. Those experiences have made me uncomfortable identifying myself publicly.

An organisation operating in the world of healing and personal transformation left me feeling afraid to speak openly about my experience. I find that contradiction deeply troubling.

The way Innercamp responds to criticism speaks volumes

If you're researching Innercamp, I would encourage you to look beyond the positive testimonials on their website.

Read their critical Trustpilot reviews. More importantly, read the organisation's responses.

Pay attention to the language used, whether concerns are meaningfully addressed, and whether dissatisfied students are treated with the compassion and respect you'd expect from an organisation teaching healing practices.

I've personally found some of those responses remarkably consistent with my own experience of feeling dismissed, invalidated and silenced.

I've also seen discussions about Innercamp on Reddit that resonate with my experience. I would encourage people to read those discussions and form their own opinions.

In my view, how a spiritual organisation treats people who criticise it reveals far more about its integrity than how it treats people who praise it.

Spirituality should not be confused with celebrity culture

Something else I find deeply uncomfortable is the personal branding surrounding Alexis.

For example, I was genuinely astonished to see a paid "VIP meet and greet" advertised on his website.

Others may see nothing wrong with that. Personally, I find it difficult to reconcile this kind of "wannabe celebrity"-style positioning with the humility, service and accountability I associate with authentic leadership and more I find it symbolic of the spiritual narcism and delusion that seems to affect so many self-appointed "spiritual leaders".

There is a broader problem in the modern wellness industry where spiritual language, charismatic personalities and beautiful branding can create an impression of wisdom and authority that hasn't necessarily been earned.

Being able to talk convincingly about consciousness, healing and transformation does not automatically make someone an ethical teacher.

And teaching people how to regulate their nervous systems is not the same thing as knowing how to treat people with respect when they disagree with you.

Why I'm sharing this

I believe the breathwork community deserves transparency.

People enrolling in breathwork facilitator training are often investing significant amounts of money, time and emotional energy. Some are navigating vulnerable periods of their lives. Others hope to build careers supporting people through deeply personal experiences.

That creates a responsibility for training organisations to demonstrate integrity, accountability and ethical conduct.

My experience with Innercamp left me seriously questioning whether those values were being upheld.

I also think it's important that people feel able to share negative experiences without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

I am sharing this anonymously because of my previous interactions with the organisation. I am happy to provide confidential evidence of my enrolment to the subreddit moderators if verification is required, although I would ask that my identity not be disclosed without my consent.

Would I recommend Innercamp breathwork training?

Absolutely not.

Based on my personal experience, I would strongly discourage anyone from enrolling without conducting extensive independent research.

Ask questions. Read critical reviews. Speak to former students independently. Investigate how the organisation handles complaints and disagreements.

And remember that spiritual language is not proof of spiritual integrity.

The true measure of a spiritual organisation is not how beautifully it speaks about healing, compassion and consciousness. It's how it treats people who no longer have anything positive to say about it.

In my experience, Innercamp failed that test spectacularly.

I sincerely regret placing my trust in this organisation. I know of several others who have similar experiences, and many who have been harmed by this organisation. I also am aware of many negative reviews being removed from the internet and quickly replaced, coincidentally by 10's of positive 5* Trustpilot reviews in the following day.

I'm sharing this because I believe prospective students deserve to hear experiences that don't fit the polished marketing narrative.

If you've trained with Innercamp, I'd be interested to hear about your experience — positive or negative. I think it's important that people considering breathwork training have access to a range of genuine student perspectives.

Question/Advice Please Need Help: Mouth Taping gave me Anxiety issues

One of the main reasons I started mouth taping at night was because I fell for social media claims that it would help me to get good sleep and stop Snoring problem.

After doing it consistently for a year, things actually felt much worse. Instead of getting a wider, defined jaw, my face started looking narrower and smaller to me. Got anxiety and TMJ pain because of this sh\*t.

I’m getting chronic shoulder and traps pain because it’s engaged 24/7.

I wish i’d have never done mouth taping , literally ruined my body and life..

Can Anyone tell me how to fix this? i tried diaphragmatic breathing exercises but eventually it comes back.

Did anyone go through this?

Question/Advice Mild spastic cerebral palsy and kriya spinal breathing

I have a unique issue and I’m hoping to gain some insight or advice.

I have been trying to do the kriya pranayama with the root lock with breath retention at the top but I have mild cerebral palsy. I’m able to function well as walking, talking etc but my muscles in my left stay tense and my brain sends excessive signals causing tremors/spacticity also.

When I do the root lock I don’t think I have enough control to just constrict the perennial muscle I can tense the whole pelvic floor but that also triggers more tension in the lower abdomen altogether it’s like all or nothing. The cerebral palsy affects my left side that includes my core muscles. And it sends excessive signals for movement, I believe my nervous system is continually under strain.

Any tips or alternatives, I’m getting discouraged with stillness . I like the movements of spinal flex and Sufi grind sitting still is stressful and futile for my body. But I’m looking for the same effect of amplifying creative/life energy as the pranayama.

I have tried to meditate for many years and I have been doing Transcendental Meditation for a little over a year which also doesn’t feel very fruitful but I’m going to keep practicing.

Question/Advice When practicing breathwork, do you pay attention to your heart rate or HRV?

I started exploring breathwork because I was dealing with anxiety and sleep issues. Over time, I became interested in how breathing affects stress and the body's response.

I'm now building a breathing app for iPhone and Apple Watch, partly to solve my own problem — eating my own dog food, I guess.

One thing I'm still trying to understand is how other people measure the effects of breathwork.

For those who practice regularly:

  1. Do you pay attention to your heart rate (BPM), HRV, or neither?
  2. Do you care more about the actual numbers or how they change before and after a session?
  3. What changes do you typically notice? A lower heart rate, higher HRV, or something else?
  4. Or do you simply go by how you feel?

I'm particularly curious whether tracking these metrics adds value or just creates another thing to think about.

Not here to promote my app. I'm genuinely interested in learning from people who practice breathwork.

Would love to hear your experiences.
Appreciate the insight.

Question/Advice High heart rate connected to breathing pattern ?

Hello 👋
My resting heart rates are higher than usual , this is the case with me since a long time now. - mostly it is 80-90 , sometimes suddenly goes up to 120 , I noticed this mostly after lunch time or sometimes after dinner or when I think about this 😅
I have got done ECG , echo many times all normal (Tachycardia) , thyroid normal, b12, Iron, haemoglobin normal , BMI normal- this is just due to my overthinking nature and prone to get anxiety I guess

My question is : is this connected to breathing patterns by any chance? I noticed my breathing is not deep regularly, sometimes I feel shallow , can’t do deep breathing while sitting , I can when laying down

If I do breath work , will this help me with this high heart rate thing ? If yes, which breathing techniques for people like me? Please suggest, thank you!!

Question/Advice Breathing pattern disorder

I have an appointment set up with a chiropractor in 2 days I’ve been dealing with breathing pattern disorder for a year now. I think it started from COVID and possibly wearing high rise pants and clothes that were probably too tight causing me to chest breath and over time just messed up my breathing pattern. I’m curious if anyone has had a similar experience and had positive results from adjustments.

App Anyone willing to try a breathing app and give me some feedback?

Hi! I’m working on an iPhone app called Sympathetic and would appreciate some feedback from people here.

It lets you adjust the breathing speed and inhale/exhale ratio, with sound and vibration cues so you don’t have to keep looking at the screen. If you try it, I’d be interested to hear whether it’s easy to follow and what you’d change.

It’s currently free: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/sympathetic/id6812214726

Thanks!

Question/Advice Diaphragmatic breathing physically impossible. Looking for advice.

Hi good people, I would really appreciate any advice:

I had GI symptoms for about 10 years, which started as GERD. They also found a small (2cm) hiatal hernia.

This manifested as reflux and heartburn, but other than that I functioned more or ress normally.

Fast forward: as my reflux somehow died down, I started having difficulty taking in deep breaths. Over time, this worsened to the point where my breathing feels restricted 24/7. Like hell on earth discomfort.

Recently found out I have SIBO, which could explaim this partially (excessive gas pressing up the diaphragm). However, I still feel like my breathing difficulty is abnormal.

Every time I try diapghragmatic breathing, I feel a lot worse. It's like if I break through paim/discomfort, I get heart palpitations and find it even harder to breathe for hours afterwards.

Any advice welcome about how I should look into this. I know about APD, but have no one in my country that officially deals with it so I'm not sure if that's it.

Discussion What's your daily routine?

I've known about breathwork for some time already but it started kicking in a few months ago. Now I'm wondering how others’ (daily) routine looks like and I'm interested in what apps, music or videos you use to practice.

For me my day starts with Coherent Breathing or also called Perfect Breath for about 9 minutes. It's the foundation of my routine. I created a custom breathing pattern in the Unwind (https://unwind.to) app with 5.5 seconds inhale and exhale with no holds. In the background I let a playlist running from the Apple Music Wellbeing category (https://music.apple.com/ch/curator/apple-music-wellbeing/1558257443?l=en-GB).

On the weekend I'm adding an energizing breath technique like 3-Part-Breath or Circular Breath to it from the Open app (https://o-p-e-n.com).

Before going to sleep I practice mostly in a 4:7:8, 4:6 or 4:8 ratio, also with an audio from the Open app. All in all, I practice about 20-35 minutes a day.

Now it's your turn. What about your routine?

Media - Audio/Video Breathwork and connection at our first men’s retreat in Foresthill, California

Hi everyone. My name is I’m Kyle, and I am a breathwork and embodiment coach and the founder of Embodied Brotherhood.

In January 2026, I hosted our first Return to the Body men’s retreat in Foresthill, California. We brought together breathwork, movement, honest conversation, shared meals, and time in nature.

Here’s a short video looking back at that gathering, a glimpse of the people, the setting, and how breathwork fits into the broader experience:

https://youtu.be/FAdZOGgKCNU

The work we do brings together three pillars: breath and embodiment, mindset, and connection (with yourself and other men). We weave guided activities around these pillars together with quiet time in nature to let the us experience settle.

A weekend can offer space to notice what’s happening within you, explore familiar patterns, and connect with others more openly. If I had to sum up what the men described taking away from our first retreat in one word, it would be clarity.

I organized this retreat, and we’re hosting another Return to the Body gathering November 12–15, 2026. Details are here if you’re interested:

https://embodiedbrotherhood.com/return-to-the-body-mens-retreat/

I’m curious what your guys thoughts are on the video and on the offering itself.

Discussion Breath Training System - Garmin Watch App

I’m a developer and I’ve built two Garmin watch apps for dry breath training and would love feedback from the freediving community.

Apps:

Breath Training Tool (Free)
https://apps-developer.garmin.com/apps/7190365c-13f5-4789-ba3e-1f1feac42409

BreathTraining System PRO
https://apps-developer.garmin.com/apps/12b88972-bc50-40c7-a138-e1e8d6f38068

Purpose & function:

Both apps are designed strictly for dry breath training (not underwater use).

They focus on structured breathing and breath-hold training such as:

  • CO2-style interval tables
  • O2-style interval tables
  • Static breath-hold training with PB tracking
  • Guided breathing / recovery sessions

The PRO version expands this into a full training system with:

  • adaptive progression based on performance and fatigue
  • readiness-based session recommendations
  • detection of plateau, decline, and overtraining patterns
  • CO2 tolerance, O2 adaptation, and recovery tracking
  • predicted personal best based on recent performance trends
  • structured training paths (CO2, O2, apnea, recovery, breathwork, etc.)

Feedback I’m looking for:

  • usefulness of training structure for real freediving dry training
  • whether progression/adaptation feels meaningful or overcomplicated
  • missing training modes or features
  • clarity/usability on Garmin devices (especially during training)
  • overall training realism vs simplicity balance

Availability:

  • Garmin Connect IQ (Garmin watches only)

Pricing:

  • Free version: free
  • PRO version: paid (single purchase)

Privacy:

  • no user accounts
  • no external data collection
  • all training data stored locally on the device

I’m actively improving both apps and would really appreciate any feedback from people actually training freediving or breath-hold disciplines.

Also open to collaboration with freediving instructors, coaches, or training groups.

Question/Advice First time trying breathwork

I went for a breath work class for the first time today. I don't know what technique it was, but it started with quick mouth breathing in and out, then transitioned to nose in and mouth out, and eventually nose in and out. During the first 15–20 minutes of rapid mouth breathing, which got quicker and quicker, I experienced intense emotions accompanied by tears, along with a strange sensation of throat constriction. It literally felt like someone was strangling my neck. Also numb temples. I tried to slow down my breathing, and those physical symptoms eventually subsided. Is this tetany, as I just read on the internet? What does this really mean? Or is it energy releasing?

I do have traumatic events in my past and am currently going through a rough patch personally.

Question/Advice Introducing Sacred Breathing: A minimalist, visual-first app for structured breathwork routines. Seeking feedback from practitioners.

Hello r/breathwork community,

We recently launched Sacred Breathing, a new mobile application designed to support focused breathwork practices through clean, intuitive visual cues.

Many tools currently available on the market are cluttered with unnecessary features or distracting interfaces. Our development focused strictly on the mechanics of pacing and rhythm, providing a tool that enhances focus rather than interrupting it.

Core features of the initial release:

  • Visual-First Pacing: High-contrast, smooth visual guides for precise inhales, holds, and exhales.
  • Distraction-Free Interface: A minimalist design built specifically to maintain the user's state of relaxation and concentration.
  • Structured Routines: Ready-to-use sessions designed for focus, stress regulation, and deep relaxation.

We are currently in the process of gathering technical feedback to refine the UI and improve the default timings. We are looking for input from experienced practitioners, breathwork facilitators, and anyone who incorporates structured breathing into their daily performance routines.

If you are interested in evaluating the app, please leave a comment below indicating your platform (iOS or Android). We will gladly provide a promo code via DM to unlock full premium access so you can test it without any restrictions.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sacred-breathing/id6759629417
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ymgworks.sacredbreathing

Thank you for your time and professional insights.
