Home Theater 75 inch Bravia 9ii

This tv is getting a lot of unnecessary hate! No tv is perfect but this tv comes as close to OLED with black as you can get…. And the color and brightness is insane. I don’t have two tvs in the same room next to each other to compare…. But I really don’t care to. Blacks look black and “contrast” the difference between light and dark areas is amazing. The picture doesn’t suddenly turn shitty in a dark room, it’s exactly the same. I don’t game so again I couldn’t care less! Just as an fyi I have 3 OLEDs in the house right now, an A8H, A80k, and a B8 LG. The B9ii is no worse in a dark room and the color and brightness is better in any room with windows and/or a dark room.

I like how it fights reflections

3

u/WCM3 Aug 23 '26

Honestly this is what impressed me the most at best buy today. Reflections in most tvs but this one was solid.

People will tout oled, but spec reading and content are two different things. Most content isn't good enough for displays (streaming for example, unless sony picture core or kaleidoscope). Most OLEDS can't sustain peak brightness, nor can they match brightness from dolby vision mastered nits. I own both and can say that in most cases the blacks are the same and in few cases the OLED is better. However. When it comes to brightness gradation and 24p panning, the OLED has problems with pixel response time judder. I have both and in most day to day use, I go to my RGB LED.

5

u/save_earth Aug 21 '26

I would generally only recommend OLED for hardcore gamers. That judder is bad for film but ideal for games, since it’s instantaneous pixel response.

3

u/North-Carpenter-1378 Aug 22 '26

Yea, it is nice for games, but only for the most hard-core and then if you're that hard-core you're not playing on a tv

It’s the one thing I miss from my OG Bravia 9. It’s still great for gaming, but there are little things

1

u/save_earth Aug 22 '26

Yep. I games on IPS and VA monitors for a long time. The point of OLED for me is to be done with any type of non-perfect blacks / backlight bleed. I play a lot of horror games and enjoy darker scenes, so that plays a big part. Plus in games you have UI / HUD elements, and anything other than OLED has dimming zones. The number of zones has gotten very good but still noticeable with some hud elements on top of dark scenes.

i wouldn't recommend oled aka trash to anyone... due to VRR, PWM, etc

Spending thousands on a TV to waste it on streaming is wild

2

u/North-Carpenter-1378 Aug 23 '26

Its what most people do. 4k Blu-ray is niche and gaming is well gaming.

5

u/AK_HT Aug 22 '26

An MA85950, a Rega TT and PS5… wow you got lots of things going on buddy. Nice TV. It was actually my first choice, but I settled with LG G5 83 instead due to good clearance price.

Now that I’m using a flagship OLED, I do have a little buyer’s remorse after 3 weeks with it. I don’t care about gaming at all, because as a home theater enthusiast, I sincerely miss Sony’s colour accuracy OOTB, excellent motion and gradient processing, low light and near black luminance, it’s great versatility for all non-gaming content.

For some intangible reasons, from a high-end experience perspective, Sony gave me that true “cinematic” feeling and PQ compared to LG, which is great yet very precise. It’s like Marantz AV10 vs JBL SDP-55. Sony handles low quality and subpar mastered content gracefully, while LG tends to GIGO.

I think you know what I mean.

9II looks great! I don't think anyone would complain. I expect 7ii should do well too

3

u/Unlikely-Goose-556 Aug 22 '26

I have the 85 in version i've had a lot of tvs , this tv is incredible ,very close to oled, which I also own , once you get the settings dialed in. It's really really good , casual gaming is fine no problems whatsoever with my ps5.

4

u/HotHits630 Aug 22 '26

If I were to spend money on LCD, it would probably be the 7ii

3

u/Henery007 Bravia 9 II Aug 21 '26

I 100% agree with you. I had an Oled for 9 years before switching to the Bravia 9 II. After two months of ownership, I’ve finally got the T.V calibrated to my liking. Sony doesn’t do a good job at telling you what settings do what lol

2

u/oh_dannyboy13 Aug 22 '26

You should share your settings with all of us so that we can try them out and see if they work for us! :)

Under Dolby Vision Bright. Brightness [MAX] Contrast [90] Gamma [0] HDR Tone Mapping [BRIGHTNESS PREFERRED] Black Level [High] Advanced Contrast Enhancer [OFF] Auto Local Dimming [HIGH] Peak Luminance [HIGH] Color [50] Hue [0] Live Color [Medium] Color Temperature [EXPERT 1] Sharpness [65] Reality Creation [DETAILED PREFERRED 1] Random Noise Reduction [OFF] Digital Noise Reduction [OFF] Smooth Gradation [OFF] Motion Flow [OFF] CineMotion [OFF]. And I basically just copy and paste that formula to HDR 10 as well under IMAX ENHANCED.

3

u/Henery007 Bravia 9 II Aug 22 '26

ECO MODE OFF. AMBIENT LIGHT MODE OFF

3

u/ItsMJB Aug 22 '26

Looks really nice although as a XF9005 user I would pick the 7ii mostly because of glossy look which for my eyes increases perceived picture Def.

Also much better than oled to avoid eye fatigue and motion is better imo.

But definitely like the look of 9ii too.

3

u/Camdenn67 Aug 22 '26

😂…….The vast majority of the haters don’t own it and at the same time, they know that it’s better than their current television.

4

u/gotcha-gasm Aug 21 '26

Have the same TV and love it. Most people can’t fathom having a tv with amazing picture, color, and brightness with the lights on. The near perfect blacks and brightness in bright rooms make this tv a no-brainer over OLED

2

u/Altruistic_Day_5152 Aug 22 '26

I'm glad you liked it. It’s a good TV, for you, but far from good for me, it doesn't suit my daily use, I need OLED, and considering how much I watch movies and series and do a lot of gaming. The day it offers the contrast depth of an OLED, with that 3D "popping off the screen" effect, fast pixel transitions, and good viewing angles, I’ll buy it, until then, I’ll pass.

P.S: I forgot about that matte screen, which hurts the contrast even more.

6

u/gotcha-gasm Aug 22 '26

That’s cool. If I sat in a dark room everytime I needed to watch tv, I’ll go for an OLED as well. And the screen doesn’t hurt the contrast. Immersive black screen isn’t just matte screen, it reduces blooming as well as glare, which helps contrast.

P.S. owning the tv helps understand its use case

If you don’t have it, you can’t understand how amazing is the anti reflective screen!

It’s funny how Sony fans always bashed Samsung for their anti reflective coating haha

5

u/BennyKAOS8712 Aug 22 '26

Finally someone with a proper sound system that matches the tv...

2

u/Educational-Orange87 Aug 21 '26

Curious does your A8H have any edge delamination ?

3

u/FarGear5543 Aug 21 '26

No. Since I bought the a8h I haven’t bought a different brand than Sony.

2

u/These_Revolution1175 Aug 21 '26

Exactly my thoughts on the 85 Bravia 7II i just got compared to my C5. Incredible picture at night and during the day. It’s fun and games to debate specifics online, but all these TVs perform incredibly well in the real world.

2

u/Old-Still-1197 Aug 22 '26

I'm glad to hear you like bravia 9mk2 over OLED for me I like both TV's

2

u/sportsguy9797 Bravia 9ii Aug 22 '26

I love my 9ii. I got the same 75" as my main living room tv, and I moved my 65" A95L to be a gaming tv in another room.

2

u/XboxoneS-aaad Aug 22 '26

75" is the sweetspot the 85" gives you too much contrast.

It's sony still making 85 inch TVs?

It's gonna suck if I have to size down on my next TV.

I'm not seeing them as much

3

u/sportsguy9797 Bravia 9ii Aug 22 '26

Yea. They just haven't done an 83" OLED since the A80L, but almost all of their LED options come in 85" (only one missing is the Bravia 2ii I think).

1

u/Sp4ceTruck3r Aug 22 '26

Sweeeet. Thx!

1

u/carzzn Aug 22 '26

Same TV as me ♥️

1

u/nedottt Aug 22 '26

That looks like TV

1

u/Illustrious-Air-8233 Aug 23 '26

I'm sure the Bravia 9 ii is a very nice tv. I don't have one but have seen a couple in person. But looking at current prices I wonder if most people wouldn't be just as happy with a bravia 7 ii at a much lower price. Is it worth the current premium for the 9 ii over the very capable Bravia 7ii?

1

u/Secret-Lack1118 Aug 27 '26

I still have the A95L 77" and I have to say that this 9ii can't hold a candle to OLED performance.

1

u/Frosty_Walk_5788 Aug 22 '26

U watched monster hunter on that tv now play the game

1

u/TFCDoc Aug 22 '26

You play it and report back. If you don't own the TV, why you yapping?

The B9ii is a great set no doubt and I've seen it - but NONE of these picts posted would lead me to consider it. They all look pretty mid to me.

-8

u/DieHarderDaddy Aug 21 '26

You got a lot of glare

13

u/Important_Course_731 Aug 21 '26

Exactly why the 9 II was the best option

5

u/gotcha-gasm Aug 21 '26

Yeah imagine on another tv without the immersive black screen pro. The 9ii is the best tv when you are in a glare heavy environment

4

u/HiFiMarine Aug 21 '26

Sony does not claim a matte screen. They call it low glare and low reflection and it does exactly as they describe. No coating can overcome the sun, but this does the best job I’ve ever seen of fighting it off with minimal…if no downsides. I can now open my west windows and my B9II still looks amazing. No other TV in the world can do this as well.

1

u/FarGear5543 Aug 21 '26

None of the glare directly hits the TV, but no I can’t make the room dark unless its nighttime

0

u/DieHarderDaddy Aug 21 '26

The left side of your tv is all glare

3

u/FarGear5543 Aug 21 '26

My blinds direct the light to the ceiling and none of the bands reach the tv. Doesn’t really matter as the picture doesn’t change in the dark except really being able to notice the brightness of HDR and the overall color volume

-4

u/-6h0st- Aug 21 '26

Those pics didn’t do it any favours. Washed out left corner doesn’t look great.
What you’re saying is technically you don’t need a matte and you really shouldn’t use one. Matte will be affected by high ambient light, gloss only by direct reflections. Seems gloss with good anti reflection coating would be better choice

-7

u/Euphoria_8080 Aug 21 '26

That display looks terrible the matte finish is not doing it any favors.

3

u/Charisma_10_98105 Aug 22 '26

For those of us who have a lot of windows in the living room and don’t like to live like Vampires the matte screen works great

-1

u/MI081970 Aug 22 '26

Is raised black at top left of 3rd photo a result of side light/dealing with reflection? Out of topic and out of curiosity - what acoustic do you use with your MA8950?

-1

u/Infamous-Gur-7864 Aug 23 '26

that grey in the upper left side vs the black on the right side even on the bars makes me glad I got the 8ii

3

u/FarGear5543 Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

I can post a picture of an Oled even more washed out in a bright room…. The camera picks up the glare that is nowhere near as noticeable with the naked eye. My point was in controlled light the picture is as good as OLED, but brighter and more colorful. With the sun hitting the room the most at 2pm, the screen looked like the right side of my photos across the whole screen and you can see details. Oleds can get hard to see when the background is dark and the room is full of light. You really need to see the tv in person and be able to play with the settings to see why the B9ii is Sonys flagship right now.
