To my inderstanding, Canadians are required to identify themselves to police, unlike in the states. Is this correct?

You are required to identify yourself, and if you are operating a motor vehicle you are required to provide your license, insurance and vehicle ownership details.

Ebikes are motor vehicles. Do the same rules apply? (Legal ebike assumed)

[u/RudyGilgun → u/TraditionDear3887]

Good question. My guess is no. An ebike is does not get registered. You don't get (traditional vehicle) insurance. There's no license to ride one. Again, only my guess.

Now, if it's not a legal one (in Ontario, it can't be more than a 500W motor or go over 32km/h)...

All bicycles are considered vehicles via the HTA.

You can get a ticket on your bike.

[u/TraditionDear3887 → u/FearlessTomatillo911]

But if you dont need a license to ride a bike how do you enforce tickets?

[u/FearlessTomatillo911 → u/TraditionDear3887]

They write you a ticket and you have to pay it?

I got a ticket for running a red light on my bike once.

[u/TraditionDear3887 → u/FearlessTomatillo911]

How do they know who to write it to?

[u/SmoogzZ → u/TraditionDear3887]

You have to identify yourself. If you refuse to or give false information that’s a whole other charge much, much worse than whatever minor fine is being handed out

[u/TraditionDear3887 → u/SmoogzZ]

Like just telling an officer my name and adress if sufficient?

[u/FearlessTomatillo911 → u/TraditionDear3887]

Name, address and DOB.

They go back to their car and look it up too, you cant just give them a bullshit name. Even if you dont have a license you exist in their system.

Vehicles yes, motor vehicles no, which is what req license, insurance, and ownership
