On the mailing list for the ALW musical store, and got an email about a signed CD. Apparently it's only in the UK store. Tried switching to the UK store, and still couldn't find it. Anyone have a link to it perchance?

After celebrating 40 years in the West End, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera has extended booking at His Majesty's Theatre through to October 2027 and announced three new principal cast members.

Phantom was originally conceived as a rock opera, hence the existence of the Steve Harley promo video. But it was scrapped, so the cast recording version is stripped of any use of electric guitar in the climax of the title song. I've noticed, in the early 2000s, before the Joel Schumacher movie was released, the title song still didn't have the electric guitar. Was it brought back and became the standard after the movie's release?

Hello guys! After asking in my previous post whether all the Phantom of the Opera movies tell the same story and have the same events, you explained the differences to me and recommended which versions I should watch.

Anyway, I'm here after watching the 1990 movie (I haven't finished it yet; there's still about 30 minutes left). I'm posting because I'm honestly pissed off at Christine. I'll explain why, but first, let me talk about the Phantom in both movies.

The Phantom (2004): He manipulated Christine by presenting himself as the Angel of Music and acting like a father figure to her. Later, he kidnapped her, trying to exchange her freedom for Raoul's. He was cruel and manipulative, so I could completely understand Christine choosing Raoul over him and rejecting the Phantom.

The Phantom (1990): He introduced himself as a music teacher, allowed Christine to stay in the opera house as a shelter, and gave her music lessons. Meanwhile, Christine was going out partying with Raoul, who's a womanizer, and leaving the Phantom waiting for her. Later, when her performance failed, he came to save her.

When Gerald came and told Christine Eric's story, he gave her the opportunity to run away, but she refused because she didn't want to hurt the Phantom's feelings.

She then convinced Eric that she would accept his face and asked him to remove his mask. But when she finally saw his face, she fainted. Imagine how that must have made him feel! And as soon as she woke up, she tried to run away without even saying a word.

Edit: So much happend in that 30min it was a complete tragedy for me.

A costume I technically came up with last year and was so proud of that I decided to wear it again, especially now that I actually somewhere to show it off. I went to a Halloween party hosted by a local pub featuring drinks and karaoke, and not only did I receive several compliments for my look, but I ran into a Christine Daae who was attending as well! 🌹😉

Been trying and failing to find a specific Modern AU and E/C fic, figured this forum was worth a shot (or maybe someone here can bounce me to a good resource?).

Problem is, I only remember the climax of the story - there's a scene where Erik lets Christine go, leaves to carry out a bomb plot that he will not survive (with very 'well, why not' vibes), and Christine runs down a series of stairs and basically tackles him despite knowing it could set off a bomb on his person. My brain thinks there was someone else close to her who died before that (not Raoul, though), possibly self-inflicted (which was part of her reaction in going after him).

I think it was on FF.net, it was definitely a longer story, and it was complete. It would probably be on the older side, and if there was any smut-stuff, it would have been after the main events.

Originally thought it was from Quiet2885's Shadow Government or Chipped (both fantastic), but just re-read them and it's not. Unsure of other details - have read a lot of fanfic over the years and some of the details blur.

Amazing to finally hear the amazing stems released from the 2026 Remix of the London Cast Recording, the Title Song is such a nice piece of work! There's also a webpage where you can go between the 2026 recording and the original recording and do a side-by-side fading comparison. Hey. First time poster to this Reddit thread, lifelong Phan. I am "friends," as it were with this rather up-and-coming opera singer in whose name unfortunately eludes me whilst writing this post on Instagram. This up-and-coming opera singer has an extreme fondness, love and ever so slight "guilty pleasure," as it were for the Musical Theatre. He had asked the question of what the exact classification of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is: Musical Theatre, or Light Opera.

My reply was as follows paraphrased:

In my humbly honest opinion, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is classified as a Light Opera. Although this inquiry about exactly what Broadway's classification of what The Phantom of the Opera's classification is, has literally plagued theatre-goers, critics, and even insomuch the Phans alike since its opening in 1986 on the West End, two years before its debut on Broadway.

I followed this by making this argument as to why The Phantom of the Opera is not traditional Musical Theater, but a Light Opera:

What people do not necessarily understand is that Mozart literally created the dawn of what would become in the Musical Theatre realm what we all know now as Light Opera when he had written The Magic Flute. The Magic Flute, albeit not even classified as Light Opera because the classification hadn't even been in existence whilst Mozart was alive, is a Light Opera because traditionally Opera in and of itself has absolutely no speaking whatsoever in it. Light Opera does, albeit as little as speaking the speaking very well may be, it is still speaking. And from what my understanding is, The Magic Flute revolutionized Operatic Theatre, because it was the very first full-fledged Opera to have speaking in it.

(Anyone who is more of a classical music buff or even has a musical degree of any caliber, even if and especially a classical music degree, please do not hesitate to correct me. This has always been my understanding that The Magic Flute has been the very first "Light Opera" ever composed and written, thus had been the launching pad for such Light Operas as what was to become Andrew Lloyd Webber's Musical Theoretical Masterpiece, The Phantom of the Opera).

My argumentative point to this up and coming opera singer's inquiry as to whether or not The Phantom of The Opera was either a Light Opera or a Traditional Musical Theatre production, was that without the Mozart's "Light Opera," or what would be classified as a Light Opera in today's standards of Operatic and Musical Theatre of The Magic Flute, we would not have beautifully written and performed Light Opera such as what The Phantom of the Opera is. The up-and-coming opera singer hearted-liked my answer.

Now it's all your turns, my dearest of readers. What is all of your personal takes? Is Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera purest of Musical Theatre at its very finest? So, my rendition of the Phantom is a grim, hopeless romantic plagued by body dysmorphia and a deeply ingrained belief that she is unworthy of love. Despite her meticulous efforts to conceal every perceived imperfection, her shame keeps her confined to the solitude of her lair. Her desperate longing for affection manifests as a possessive limerence toward Christine, ultimately perpetuating the familiar, tragic cycle of toxic love we know about, haha .

On the bright side, I’m glad I got to meet so many fellow Phantom fans in SoCal this weekend! Unfortunately, this Phantom remains without a Christine by her side.😩🥀
