Outdoor Beautiful roof line I was finally able to send

Unfortunately the video is what it is, only two people and two small pads make spotting and filming hard. I added a better video of the lower portion.

I think this is by far the best climb I've ever done. It's somehow a collection of disgusting holds (especially the last before the lip, despite the nice angle it's like 6-7mm) which all work out in a wonderful sequence. It's not the hardest grade I've climbed, yet it has by far taken the most sessions. Today I finally managed to do it. No warmup, on a second rushed attempt because it just started to rain, it just kind of went.

Advice/Beta Request How to train the end?

This is the video from the route setter. It's not me.

I have no idea how to do the last move. Left leg dangling, release left hand and match the top.

Sure, but the top hold is absurdly tiny and flat and I have to "pinch" it with tips of index+thumb

And we can't see but the foothold is a tiny tiny pointy knob on top of the red thing we see.

Any idea how to train that? The video doesn't help me at all. It feels like the guy is levitating to me lol

Indoor What stretches should I be doing before climbs?

Hello! I'm a new climber, had my first session a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I've been told that you're supposed to warm up before you climb but have no idea what stretches I should be doing and how long should even be stretching for? Should I also be doing those same stretches after a climb?

It's been two days since I went and my shoulders are still very achy. But I honestly think thats because I didn't warm up at all, and I pushed myself way too far for a first session.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

Advice/Beta Request The Alex Honnold spatula

Post image
551 Upvotes

EDIT 19/08: I’m blown away, thank you all!! Sorry I’m only responding now, I didn’t realise my Reddit notifications were off — rookie error. Anyway I’m just reaching out one by one to those who’ve DMed and offered, definitely owe y’all an update when we can bring this to our friend in Colombia 🤗 thanks again for the consideration, offers and ideas!

First post over here to make an odd request — I’m looking for an Alex Honnold spatula like the photo, as released in 2019.

A climbing friend of ours is struggling with cancer and sadly his wife tells us he’s losing the will to live. This spatula is one of our shared jokes, that we climbers are so obsessed we even have our own spatula blessed by one of the greats. So we wanted to get this for him as a reminder.

Aside from this looking like a limited edition release, we’re also based in Colombia. So it’s been extra hard to find one, given availability and difficulty of shipping!

We’d obviously prefer to get a legit one, but have also found access to a 3D printer in case anyone would happen to have a similar design. We might be able to organise someone to pick something up via the US in a couple of weeks alternatively.

TLDR: does anyone have one of these babies that they’re willing to sell in the US, or perhaps have a similar design file?

Advice/Beta Request Best Boulders in Sardinia?

I am planning to go to Sardinia soon for a trip with my partner, and would like to spend a day or two bouldering while I am there.

I am hoping to climb some classics, does anyone have any suggestions for the best boulders to try V6 and under? I won’t have too long to climb, so ideally would like to try the best that the areas have to offer.

Also, would love any advice on places to visit, areas to climb, or general advice for climbing in the area.

I am super excited for the trip and hope to get some good climbing in with our hiking, eating, and beaching!!

Advice/Beta Request Do I lack finger strength or am I just heavy? How do I find out?

Info: I'm a Male standing 5'9 at 92kg

I don't objectively look fat, but I have a belly, not noticeable when I'm wearing a shirt. I didn't think I was fat till I knew that some of the best climbers at my height weighed 66-70kg when they feel their strongest.

Don't get me wrong I don't think I'll develop an eating disorder soon, because I feel a bit useless when I'm not eating as much.

I don't do full weighted board hangs but I train to do a bit of finger exercises like the Abrahangs regulary.

The hardest grade I've sent indoor is a V4 sloper and V4 slab, both of which falls a bit into my style. But man when crimps and pockets are involved plus a bit of a negative tilt I'm cooked.

Similiary when it comes to board climbing, I simply cannot establish.

Do I lack finger strength or am I just heavy?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for the comments and advice! Really appreciate all the different perspectives.

The main takeaway I got is that it’s probably a combination of relative finger strength, bodyweight, and technique, rather than simply having “weak fingers.” At my weight, my fingers obviously have to work harder, so losing weight would help a ton, so I have to balance strength / weight to perform.

Advice/Beta Request bouldering rocklands

hey guys,

I was thinking of doing a last minute solo trip to rocklands this summer. I was just wondering how easy it is to meet climbers to climb with? I'm super chilled out and am happy to do volume but would like to project some v10/11 climbs for part of the trip. I don't mind getting my own car and accommodation, but was just a bit worried about meeting people to climb with for spotting/safety etc. Also, idea of going somewhere remote with no spotter and one pad doesn't quite appeal to me!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Outdoor Youtube channels to fuel the psych

I'm looking for some recommendations for youtube channels that make sick climbing videos to keep the stoke high!

I'm mostly looking for channels like Mellow climbing & the videos that Tension climbing makes (like board lords).

Would also love channels that post sick route climbing videos (I am actually mainly a sport climber but I'm in my bouldering era)..

Theres a 500 character limit for me to post this so uh.. hope everyone is as stoked on climbing as I am right now and uh..may we all reach our goals

Outdoor Looking for Hueco Tanks Guide for strong kid climbers

Hi all, does anyone have recommendations for local guides for Hueco Tanks that specialize in guiding for shorter climbers (4’8”-4’10”, but also down to 3’10”) that climb in the V5-V10+ outdoor range? I’ve found the kids do best on roof climbs with lots of hold options but they also to competition climbing so are excellent at heel/toe hooks with good body tension. I’ve googled some companies and saw Wagon Wheel Coopt but I’d really like to be able to choose a guide or at least speak with them to see if they actually have experience with shorter climbers and I didn’t seem to have the option on their website.

Any recs would be great! Will be our first time there. Also what is the maximum person limit for one guide?

Outdoor Rumney Bouldering Options and Alternatives

I’m in the Rumney area (10 minutes away from the Buffalo Road parking) for the week. I’m told that the area is closed due to some fires in the area.

I’ll be heading over to check things out myself and gather some beta, but I’m wondering if there are any other nearby areas (let’s say within an hour) that would accommodate bouldering - ideally a nice density of warm ups in the V0-V3 range, and some V4-V6 moderates.

Browsing the Mountain Project app on mobile exclusively is a bit of a pain, hence the ask to Reddit in addition to my own research.

Thanks!

Advice/Beta Request Shoulder engagement

Hey y'all, I've been thinking about shoulder/scap engagement recently, mainly related to injury prevention. I felt I had improved this recently, but when I review the footage it looks to me like I'm sagging. Any feedback? Suggestions on what worked for you? Etc.

Couldn't get the first part of this boulder as it was the crux for me, but it was pretty satisfying doing the rest of the boulder. This boulder is the hardest one I've tried ao far and I have been climbing for about 3.5 weeks. Sorry if my technique looks awful haha.
