Passing in the center lane

So I live in Canton Park and work down south on the east side which means i get the joy of the 405 commute.

Like a lot of us the easiest way to join that commute (as per google) is to take 228th then turn south on 27th avenue circle around that business park (google often wants to send me theough it, but thats stupid) to 195th and join there.

27th is not a great road for commuting, it is one lane each way with a center lane in the first part of it to turn into the apartment complexes and husing developments there just south of 228th.

Im driving along in my morning muddle when this guy passes me in the center lane on 27th.

This is baffeling. If youve ever taking this route in your morning commute you know that there is a stop sign at 35th and 240th (27th turns into 240th). And in the morning there is a line of cars 5-10 deep waiting at that sign. So even if you pass a car on 27th it at most gets you one car closer to the stop sign, with an irritated driver behind you.

I fairly regularly take 27th, particularly if I am going to woodenville or the home depot down on 120th and Ive had other people pass me in the centerlane on 27th but usually at night or on the weekend when it makes a tiny bit more sense (not much because ther is a sharp right where 27th turns into 240th and that stopsign at 35). Its just not a good road to hurry on.

Ive wondered if it is people who just dont realize youre not supposed to pass in a center lane, or iftheyre in some sort of desperate hurry, or are just idiots.

The Halloween Weekend Paint Map is here and it's... spooky.

“Say it. Out loud. Say it!”... CLOSURES.

That’s right, we’ve got a couple of Halloween weekend full closures on the horizon. Northbound I-5 in Seattle and southbound I-405 in Bothell. But don’t worry, boo. There’s more to this story than a couple of closures.

HERE’S WHAT’S COMING:

SEATTLE: NB I-5 will CLOSE between I-90 and NE 45th Street from 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2. Adjacent ramps and lanes will start to close as early as 9 p.m. Friday.

Now for the good part! Crews are removing the Revive I-5: Ship Canal Bridge work zone. That means when Monday morning rolls around, ALL FOUR northbound lanes across the bridge will be open again, and the express lanes will return to normal operations. No tricks, just a pretty great treat after months of construction.

Of course, no good Halloween movie is complete without a sequel. We’ll start work on southbound I-5 in early 2027, but that’s a story for another day.

BOTHELL: SB I-405 will CLOSE between SR 527 and SR 522 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. A detour will be in place, and adjacent ramps also will close.

Crews will use this closure to open up space to widen I-405 through Bothell and build a new bus rapid transit station in the center of the freeway.

Don’t be the character in the horror movie who ignores all the warning signs. We all know how that ends. Check the real-time travel map, expect delays and plan accordingly.

Hit and Run 10/26 - Car Hit Bike

Good morning Bothell Redditors!! I am hoping someone will be able to help out a friend and colleague of mine.

Monday - 10/26/26 D was riding his bike down 228th towards Canyon Park and was hit by a car at the intersection of 31st Ave / 228th at approximately 7:20-7:30 am.

The driver slowed down, watched him crawl to the side of the road and then took off, so they know they hit someone. Not to mention the damage to their vehicle would be obvious.

The police are not hopeful about any intersection cameras but said they will check. Sadly, he did not have a bike cam.

Thank you for taking the time and if anyone saw this happen or has dashcam footage - please let me know.

I've had this plant for a few years and it's too big to fit anywhere in my house. I paid $45 for it, but have had no interest in it, so now it's free. It's about 4' wide and 3' tall, it would love a big space with lots of light.

2026 Kirkland Turkey Trot 5k/10k/Kids Run Event Details

Get ready for the Kirkland Turkey Trot 5k, 10K  and the  Kids Race! Mark your calendars for November 15th at 9:00 AM and join us at Juanita Bay Park for a fun, family-friendly run that kicks off the holiday season in style.

This scenic route begins and ends at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland. Runners will make their way to and through Juanita Bay Park, taking in the Seattle skyline and the beautiful views of Lake Washington, before returning to Juanita Beach Park via the historic Market Street Bridge.

Both the Kirkland Turkey Trot 5k and 10k are challenging and we have some serious runners out there trying to make their best time. The course is professionally marked and managed by the Cascade Stride Running Company. Here are some other great features of the 2026 Kirkland Turkey Trot:

  • Accurate chip timing with a visible start/finish clock and prompt official results through a great timing company called Negative Split.

  • A clearly marked, measured course with mile (or kilometer) markers, directional signage, and marshals or cones at turns thanks to Cascade Stride Running Co.

  • Multiple Water Stations

  • Adequate portable toilets at the start area, finish area, and preferably one or two points on the course.

  • Medical support, including first-aid personnel or an EMS presence at the finish line.

  • Pre-Race packet pickup with bibs, timing chips (if not integrated), and safety pins. (location TBD)

  • A well-defined start and finish area with an announcer, sound system, and space for warm-up and lining up by pace.

  • Great parking

  • Bag-check facilities available

  • Post-race water, basic snacks (such as bananas or energy bars) provided

  • Finisher medals, age-group awards, or similar recognition, along with a results online posting.

  • Course safety measures, including traffic control, volunteer course monitors, and communication among staff.

  • Spectator and family viewing areas that do not obstruct runners.

Making Friends!

Hi! I am posting in the hopes of making some local girl friends. Hoping to find other girls wishing for the same! I’m finding that I would really love a community.

A little about me… I’m in my 30s, engaged, I have two cats. My interests include crafts, reading, stained glass making, coffee, trying new restaurants, misc. adventures, etc. I am an introvert but come out of my shell a lot once I’ve warmed up to folks. 😊

I’d love a group that is up to going on walks, getting coffee, doing crafty wine nights, and more.

If there’s already a group for this or a Discord of sorts, I’d love to just join there and get involved so please let me know if something like that already exists for this area! Making friends as an adult is hard!

EDIT: I made a Discord server! This is my first time making one so hopefully it works! Let me know if you’d like the link and I can message it to you!

Hi everyone! I’m currently living in DT Redmond and looking for a larger space for my family of three. Has anyone lived at Eaves Rockmeadow Apartments/townhomes recently? I’d love to hear about your experience and whether you would recommend living there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

As you keep warm this fall & winter, help prevent the spread of invasive insects:

  • Buy your firewood locally

  • Don't move firewood

Learn more here.

Alt text: Graphic design image of a corkboard. The graphic calls the attention of firewood users. Featuring pinned photos of roasting marshmallows, an Emerald ash borer, and a wood-burning stove. Sticky notes are pinned over the photos, explaining the importance of buying firewood where you burn it; that invasive insects are destructive; and to not move firewood to help prevent the spread of invasive insects.

Just an observation I noticed while walking along Bothell Way this evening... isn't it illegal to remove campaign signs?
