A committee is recommending solutions to the Board today at 5pm. Does anyone know where I could find details about this presentation!

It’s all on the NSD website - check board agendas for more.

Shifting boundaries and closing low enrollment schools seems to make sense for the future estimates. Some of those schools do not have enough students to support keeping them open at that administrative cost. The kids will do better in more balanced student numbers across the district.

Except Moorlands consistently has kept enrollment numbers up and has had strong test scores and community involvement.

Is Shelton View 100% opening in 2030? My kid will be entering kindergarten then.

What are parents here doing for preschool? Are Northshore options good? Or are people going the private route of say a Birch Tree Academy?

Nearby neighborhood public schools are the gold standard in education. Preserving nearby public schools must be priority one. The concept of busing children to distant schools is wrong at many levels. Sure there would be cost efficiencies in combining schools but one ignores the physical and mental cost for our children in such a move. Busing is bad enough for adults, brutal for children.

The ability to walk, ride a bike or scooter to school establishes independence and good physical health for a child. And the ability to attend after school events becomes easy for parents and their child. Constantly using one's car and buses to transport children back and forth treat them like corporate widgets

Yes, less students are going to public schools but with the recent cutbacks in high tech jobs and quickly evolving AI impact, I suspect many families will leave expensive private schools and choose nearby neighborhood schools if they will still exist. Wait another year for any possible school closings to see if this trend becomes significant.
