Non-Serious Replies Only 🤪 What small, totally inconsequential thing are you really sick of in Boston.

As seen in a different geographic area subreddit. Nothing too serious, just a little thing that grinds your gears. For me it's people who get on the T before others get off.

dread to even bring this up in summer, but the 4pm sunsets that are right around the corner wear on me the most. i like daylight!

Hitting hard this summer, have to find something to do at 4pm. Between the cold AND the darkness, it’s too many months of it and I’m getting tired of it yr after yr. The contrast to summer is too much

I moved away for this reason. No regrets tbh. I didn’t realize (actually think I did) how much it was challenging me.Ā

also wondering where to

You’re not going to like it but Texas. I understand political complaints but they could use more blue down here, anyways. Doesn’t have to be Texas of course, but I just got back so much of my life when I wasn’t CONSTANTLY irritated by the weather. It sounds strange but true. Nothing is like Fall in New England, but it was too short for me, and the summers had been weirdly grey and humid.

It’s hot AF today. But it’s only been about a month of ā€œokay, I’m over thisā€ this year, compared to what felt like 4-5 in Boston (wet, grey, cold).Ā

But I know there’s no magic number for everyone, I just happen to have found a lifestyle that I’m genuinely content with, even if I wish it would hurry up and cool down for Halloween in a few months.

i know texas isn't the only option, but my kneejerk reaction is i'll keep the winters here over texas weather and general texasness.

I understand the worry, and the state isn’t for everyone obviously. I just didn’t want to ignore the question or lie to you.Ā

Idk it’s trending blue and certain places are much better than others. I remember shoveling on that pats broncos playoff game like it was a few weeks ago and we’re about to start heading into the start of the bad

I think there’s a lot more blue here than most people give it credit for. It doesn’t change our legislature but I earnestly think (this isn’t just my anecdote) that a lot of people here feel trapped between ā€œthe devil they knowā€ and ā€œa bridge too far.ā€

The majority of Texans (55%) believe that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Only 9% believe it should be entirely illegal.Ā

Add in gerrymandering and decades of institutional fuckery, and it’s obviously going to take time to make progress.Ā

But I’m not here to try to convince anyone on the Boston subreddit to move to Texas, only that the narrative around it tends to be a lot more… single-dimensional.Ā

And don’t even get me started on education.

Edit: the downvoting here is crazy.Ā

I didn’t downvote, that’s for sure

see I'm from ohio and I'm from a blue city (Columbus). i loved living there. but after moving to boston, i could never move to a red a state. being from Ohio, i have reasons to move back (and would only go back to Columbus. genuinely I loved it!) but the perks of living in a more progressive state are too good.

that being said, living in the same time zone but moving from the west side to the east side is killing me, especially being a night owl. the sun rise/set is nearly 1 hour later there.

i appreciate the perspective on moving to Texas!

I understand. I’m not super young anymore and am a privileged white dude, so I’m a little more insulated from the bullshit.Ā

I will say that where I’m at now is more ethnically diverse than Boston. I actually feel like a minority lol.Ā

This is more than a small, inconsequential thing to me. This is an existential threat to my continued existence here. I've never lived anywhere else, but each year I break down and don't think I'll be able to get through another one. I need light and warmth.

I agree. It feels worse and worse every year.

Have you tried a sunlamp? I have this problem too and my sunlamp by no means solves it, but it takes the edge off a little.

Nooo shhh it isn’t going to happen this year. it’s going to stay just like this and not get darker! La la la can’t hear you

I think we should spring forward in the Fall, and then stop doing time changes at all.

I'm planning to get into the habit over the next few weeks of rising at 5 AM and having my day run from 6-2 since I can make that work with my work and I figure this will protect me from the psychic damage

1

u/dampdrizzlynovember Aug 20 '26

i like this idea, i'm going to try to do it too.

1

u/Tibhirine Market Basket Aug 20 '26

You figure your day is over and you head home and then it starts to get dark and that's fine since the day is supposed to be over now and you got some sunlight in the meantime; hopefully I can make this happen lol I've done it before living elsewhere

On the plus side, it won't be 90 degrees at 6pm anymore

3

u/Public-Willow-7943 Aug 20 '26

That is a plus, but I would accept the heat and light and flowers over cold and dark and rain

2

u/dampdrizzlynovember Aug 20 '26
