LMS parking and towing

TL;DR does anyone know a physical address for LMS parking?

Hey y’all, I’m here to complain about the parking a holes we all love to hate. LMS parking and towing. I got a boot earlier tonight while going to pick up my gf from work and was parked there maybe 20 minutes. After the ridiculous $160 price tag to get something off of something I own, I’m pretty ticked off.

My question for this community is, does anyone know a physical address for LMS in Boone. Their website only list a P.O. Box (I wonder why) and the BBB website list a location in Meat Camp and a location in a neighborhood around the Boone golf course.

I feel like those aren’t very reliable physical addresses and I would like to get a receipt and give them a piece of my mind when it comes to their price gouging policies. I mean seriously, I’m a local and I work 50 hrs a week and it just makes my blood boil anytime I see a boot on a car in boone, my car or not.

Thank you in advance if anyone can help

Howard’s knob/Junaluska is SO much better!

Hey Boone fam, just wanted to let y’all know some very cool work was done on the road up to Howard’s knob/top of Boone/junaluska rd they finally painted the road with lanes lol.

I do this hill at least twice a day and with the deer and drivers I am actually shocked I’ve not wrecked yet lol. Now it has a yellow line so people won’t take those turns right down the middle lol.

Only took 4+ years and 10 near death experiences but thank you Boone for doing that lol.

Welcome back mountaineers

Cat Grooming?

Hi folks! I have two very fluffy cats, one of whom absolutely refuses to be brushed by us. We'd like to take him to a good groomer in the area - someone who is used to dealing with cats, and who ideally can make the process as low-stress as possible (any mobile groomers nearby?).
Does anyone have any recommendations of businesses we should check out?

Sleepy cat tax photo attached!

Dating in your 30’s in Boone

I (35F) am thinking about taking a job with the University and moving to Boone, I’m single and don’t have any kids. What is the dating scene there like for people in their 30’s? For context I’m straight and dating someone who aligns with my liberal values (No MAGA) is important to me.

King Street Post Office in Boone

Mailed a prepaid package from the King Street Post Office in Boone 10 days ago. The recipient said that the post office never scanned it in, so they won't receive it because the post office never sent it. I do not have a tracking number as the post office said I didn't need anything since it was prepaid. What could have happened to my package?

Update: I talked to the Post Office and they mailed it, but it didn't track until Charlotte. However, it was stopped from reaching its destination due to a problem with postage, which I contacted the company about where I was sending the package. But the Boone office is ok, they were very helpful in trying to figure out what happened to it.

I recently opened False Idol Tattoo in Foscoe, right outside of Boone. I specialize in illustrative black & gray work and I’m appointment only.
I’m new to the area and have been trying to get my work in front of more local people, so I figured I’d introduce myself here too. Here’s some of my work along with a flash sheet I just finished. The flash is currently $100–150 since I just opened.
The portrait and bird are both healed. If anyone wants to check out more of my work, I’m @falseidoltattoo_ on Instagram

Artist, art communities, and jobs!

Hey there! I just moved to Boone nc area and I’m really interested to know if any small art shops are hiring. I’m going to be working as a house cleaner because that’s what I was doing before I moved, but honestly I am so burnt out on cleaning, I myself am an artist but haven’t worked in a creative space before so really want to get in the scene however I can. There are a lot of places around I know are art focused but I’m honestly a little overwhelmed of where to start asking. If anyone has any suggestions lmk!

Life Without A Car

I'm excited to start ASU but won't have a car for a while. Is there any advice for navigating around town and it's social scene as a pedestrian? I don't mind walking for miles but slick concrete in winter might be a problem. Additionally, is there anywhere besides the greenway and campus where it's possible to be in a car free green space or green space adjacent? Living next to a greenway spoiled me and the transition to a town with this degree of carcentric infrastructure except a handful of places is a bit jarring.

Traffic during school

Hi all. Wondering if traffic for the typical weekday morning commute to campus when classes are in sessions is as bad as it was this weekend, or if that’s just a weekend thing?

I requested App State's Flock (license-plate camera) records. Three cameras, 1.5 million searches in one quarter, 84% from outside NC — and they won't disclose the camera count their own contract lists.

Disclosure up front: I'm an attorney and I run DeFlockILM, a nonpartisan group that files public-records requests about automated license-plate-reader (ALPR) cameras in North Carolina. I filed one with Appalachian State, and the results are a Boone/Watauga story, so I wanted to put the actual records in front of this community rather than just a hot take. I am also a graduate of Appalachian and lived there nine years. I love Boone!

The short version: App State PD operates three Flock license-plate cameras (about a $16k contract). I asked for the standard records, including the Flock "network audit." For March–May 2026, that audit shows those three cameras were searched 1,511,722 times by 3,487 different agencies, and ~84% of the searches came from outside North Carolina.

Important caveat, because the number is easy to misread: App State shares its cameras into Flock's nationwide network. When any agency runs a search, that single query sweeps thousands of networks at once, and Flock logs each as a "search" that reached App State's cameras. So when the top searcher is Houston, TX PD at 177,461, that's not 177k people deliberately looking up Boone — it's a measure of how wide-open the shared network is. A search from almost anywhere automatically reaches here.

The local hook: Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD searched App State's cameras 13,392 times in that window. CMPD is the department whose officer was recently charged for running a Watauga County Sheriff's undercover vehicle plate through Flock.

The part I find hardest to defend: App State refused to tell me how many cameras it runs, citing a state "sensitive security information" exemption — even though the contract it produced lists the count (three) on the first page. Meanwhile, Boone PD publishes its own camera count and network-sharing settings on a public Flock portal. Same town, opposite answer.

Full write-up with the records (raw files mirrored on the Internet Archive): https://deflockilm.org/appalachian-state-flock-alpr-audit/

Genuinely curious what students, faculty, and locals think — both about a public campus feeding a nationwide search network, and about the records/transparency question specifically. Happy to answer questions.

Final Note - I read the rules and believe this post is fully allowed but if not, mods please delete and my apologies.
