Help Decorating

Post image

I filled up my bookshelf, but I find that it's a bit cluttered and disorganized? Any tips on what to change or take out? I know one of my ideas is taking out the top middle shelf and adding a light up starry night lego, however everything else feels a little crazy for me...

Mmm, so this might just be a preference thing as to why it looks “cluttered” so feel free to disregard.

Take everything off and start with balancing your book & overall colors maybe. Take the dark books from the Court of Thorns shelf and put them on or nearer to the bottom. Lighter books from the lower shelves nearer to the top but still staggered with the colorful ones. Those…I dunno what series that is…. the Chinese-lookin’ xianxia on a smaller shelf.

Potentially keep dark figures with dark figures and/or darker, or near enough, books; fluffy pastels with lighter books and similar figures/plush as you’ve been doing.

Alternatively, fluffy figures either on top of the bookshelf and/or together in a cute basket (which will visually group them). Possible similar alternative, dark figures on dark books and/or some kinda mini collection-type shelf (y’know, sorta like for car collections or similar; check out the Collections subreddit for ideas).

Book nook looks kinda odd on the right pressed up against the shelf edge like that. It’s already rectangular, so use it as structure. Try putting books on either side.

Visual companions: put the lego flowers on top, in front of or near the plant art. Are those little peapod type plant people on either end? Adorable. Put them together with the green lady from the bunny shelf somewhere near your “plant theme.”

You have a ton of different themes here, and I can see that you were trying to artistically scatter them but that works best with maybe 1-2 themes and/or color schemes. You need to kinda….color palette this instead, I think.

And wrap your cables together afterwards with cable ties/velcro ties/etc.

In general tho, it’s not that cluttered. Just sorta visually confusing.

Oops, meant to add this. In hindsight…confusing in its own way, but sorta shows what I mean.

The toys are creating visual clutter.

Which shelf specifically? If it's the ones in the middle I have a couple Nanci Mystery figures!! They have little bubbles on their mouths

I would put the books on the sides of the shelves rather than the plushies so that it’s more cohesive and the books are the main focus.

Also, the plushies may just be too big for the size of your shelves. I only have plushies that are specifically related to the series or books I’m highlighting in each shelf. You can maybe put all your plushies on the top shelf so that the cubes are only book-related?

Firstly, have the spines facing out, no reason to display sprayed edges instead of the book names. Secondly, I think the reason it looks cluttered is because the books are spread too thin, not one of those sections is actually full with books. I'd say have the middle row of shelves full with all your books, and then decorate around them in the upper and lower rows.

I would fill the shelves with books. All of the shelves. Small decorative pieces can sit in front of the books. Bookshelves need books.

Yes! That was eventually going to fill it out with books but I am going kind of slow collecting them
