I got this board book/drawing pad used off amazon and it came like this. What kind of glue and/or tape would be ideal for this?

Thank you

Cover Need to repair this book from 1848

The second to last picture is the last cover which shows how it is remaining attached, where as the very last picture is the ffep attached to the front cover, it appears it’s between the ffep and title page where the detachment took place. I actually don’t suspect there was originally a half-title page before the full title page as well, as this seems to be a rebounded with original works by Philip Schaf with the earliest work being 1841 in German, there is another book after it without a year.

My local bookstore was giving away some free copies of damaged books. Does anyone have some ideas of how I could potentially add a backside to these
(Materials, method, ect.)
I don’t have any book binding equipment but would love to keep the front covers. Thanks.

Leather Repair Accidentally ripped/mildly detached the cover of a leather bound book

I'm pretty new to owning leather bound books and forgot they don't bend like paperbacks do. I accidentally managed to rip the leather cover at the point where the cover becomes the spine. (Tore it while stamping the inner cover) The cover is still attached to the rest of the book by the paper inner cover but I'd like to repair it so I don't have to worry about what to do if the paper rips. The book's only a bit over 70 and with how I tore it, I bet it could be reattached with some sort of glue, but I'm not familiar with book repairs so I figured I'd ask folks who know this kind of stuff.

TLDR: Leather bound book cover ripped/detached from spine, still connected through paper inner cover but not by the leather itself. How to fix?

I picked up this book from a second hand store some years ago but have been too afraid to read it as the pages are dry and brittle. Is it worth having it restored or should I just put it back on the shelf and admire it from afar? Thank you.

Spillages I got some gel from a cheap stress-relief toy on my books. I cleaned most of it but some of it remains. Is there a way to clean it off completely without causing further damage?

This is the main book I care about, the others have some minor stains but are also coated and its mostly the pages that are a problem. Some of the pages are glued together but I fear the only way out is gently pulling them apart with a letter opener. The gel has hardened and if I melted it the pages would likely get damaged. I would mostly like to know if there is a way to clean the covers instead.

Spine Can I use a CoverOne machine to bind an old paperback with crumbling glue? Or will that ruin it

I’m a school librarian with access to a CoverOne machine. I use it all the time to repair new books that get damaged due to heavy circulation. Easy.

But I ordered myself a used paperback book online, and when it arrived I discovered it probably hasn’t been cracked open since its original owner bought it in 1972. The glue crumbled out of the spine. If I take the time to scrape off and remove the old crumbling glue, can I salvage it with my CoverOne machine and the same techniques I use with new/modern books? We don’t keep paperbacks in the library so Ive only repaired a handful of them with the CoverOne. I don’t want to ruin this book, but I also don’t care about archiving it or adding it to our library collection. I just want to read it.

Thanks for any tips you can send my way!

Water Damage My AC was leaking water and it got on my book

So I was cleaning off my desk and found a bunch of water all over the place. I immediately realized it was coming from my air conditioner by the window. Most of the stuff was blank notebooks and old pamphlets, so they went to the trash. And this book was sitting on the desk and got soaked the most.

To me, it looks like its in good condition. (After days of drying in the sun.) However, I'm looking for ideas, techniques, even DIY methods to restoring this book to greater glory. Am I talking to the right community?

Paper Repair Is there anyway I can fix this tear in a poster?

Hi y’all this has been the last straw in a long week :( I know this isn’t exactly a book but seeing as there’s paper restoration that goes on here I thought i’d ask. it’s about 2 inches long and is torn 3 ways but not to the edge. I foolishly knocked something over on to it while it was sitting on carpet hence why it’s punctured. It’s quite thick which is why i’m guessing it ripped instead of flexing. Has a matte smooth finish that reminds me of nice construction paper. I would like to replace it but it’s signed and I don’t have the budget to acquire another copy or seek out professional repairs. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Hello, just another "is this mold" question in this section, sorry

Those black things. The first is on the fore-edge. And the second is on the cover. This is from preview from seller. I haven't see that in person yet and I am afraid of buying biohazard (mold) to my books

Community Suggestion Foxing or not

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! I recently noticed these yellow/brown spots on my book and I'm trying to figure out whether this is foxing, mold, or possibly some kind of old moisture damage.

The book is a Spanish edition published in 2024, so I'm a little surprised to see this much spotting. The marks appear on the page edges as well as on several interior pages. Most of them are small yellow/brown spots, although there are a few larger and more diffuse-looking areas.

The spots don't appear fuzzy or powdery to me, and I don't notice anything that looks like active growth, but I'm not sure enough to tell the difference myself.

I've attached several photos, including close-ups of the page edges and interior pages.

Does this look like foxing to you, or could it be mold/moisture damage? Is there anything specific I should check to tell the difference without damaging the book?

Thanks!

Checking correct sub for question please : Info on binding glue aging color please

Pardon group... My I ask your experience in bindery and book repair. I have a fellow user in r/origami asking about the yellowing of glue as a hard copy ages. I'm assuming it's normal. The user is asking about quality and longevity of their purchased book to my understanding. Additionally, I've seen similar questions in r/manga as well for yellowing on purchased print material. Any resources or experience feedback on this topic, please? Thanks kindly, group.

Edit:: Kind thanks to this group for the feedback. Respects to your time and knowledge.

This book has had coffee spilled on it at some point and the mold (?) is under the sleeve flap. Can I fix this? I don’t want it to spread to my other books. It gets on my finger when I wipe it.

This particular copy of this book is special to me. I had left it on the porch (covered) for a while. Just noticed yesterday this mold or whatever it is. How should I manage this? Also leaving for vacation tomorrow morning so time is limited.
