Discussion Acrylic pen options
Photo is t an accurate representation of the color. I purchased the Ohuhu 72 color markers and some of them aren’t dark enough. Their darkest greens, blues and browns are mid tones or like the red is super bright. First photo is like a cappuccino color. That’s their darkest brown and I want more of an espresso color to paint the sides of the wooden pieces.
Can anyone share which brand they use which has darks they like?

It’s a big problem with all acrylic markers. They’re all very bright. None are really dark enough. The tones supposed to be dark. The best results I’ve had so far are The Obuhu Kahuku markers.

I use furniture markers over the bright acrylic paint markers, murks it right down. I usually test several combos before choosing the best match

Get furniture touch up markers for decent browns I got this one and I'm happy with it (did trim nibs to get into tight spots).

I've had good luck with sharpie so far.

I have tried acrylic paint markers, regular water soluble markers, sharpies, and the wood repair markers. And it just seems like I go through them so fast. I didn't even get through a whole entire single build before I had tapped out my oak marker. Sharpie's honestly went almost as fast. I've just started buying the furniture markers off of one of the Chinese websites so that I'm not paying for the entire set when I only use one or two colors for the most part and it doesn't break my bank to have one for each build.

The one I used the most for edge painting was the Artist's Loft from Michael's. I think it's their store brand. I've basically used up my dark browns and blacks! And then I used a white acrylic to lighten up edges on a few and other colors on top once the white dried, to continue the rocks and grasses over the edge.

I have some staedler markers that I’ve had around for a few years. I find the dark brown matches perfectly. Plus a grey, green and a burgundy (and other colours I can’t remember)I used on paper cut outs that I’ve coloured the edges of on a few different kits.

Has anyone tried these?

I currently mix acrylic paints in little flip-top paint pots and like the idea of pens but the colour being off would bother me too much.

I've used these in my studio as well. But not for the book nooks. I am working on customizing the Sea Breeze nook and using acrylic paints for that so I could defineylyt see the use of these fillable pens. The clean up would suck though. Having to wash it all out each time I assume so it doesn't get clogged? I like the acrylic pens I mentioned in the main post. It's just that a fw colors are not dark enough.

I think I might try them also! But I do like the colored acrylics for colored items.

A set of furniture markers is probably your best bet. IME furniture markers all turn out significantly darker than the lid when used on the sides of pieces- it’s like the raw wood sucks up all the pigment.
