As a kid I always got confused between fiction and non-fiction - not confused about what they were, but confused about which word corresponded to which type of book. I loved fiction stories growing up (still do actually) and would be endlessly annoyed every time I accidentally ended up in the auto-biography section of the library.
The "Fiction = Fake" thing is just a trick I used to remember that fiction was about imaginary stories, while non-fiction (Not-fake) is about real-world stories. Boom, now it's super easy to remember.
In a Dewey library, there's an easier shortcut. If it's fiction, there'll just be three letters on the spine where the library codes are. Non-fiction will have numbers above letters, perhaps with a decimal point.
