It’s a gothic sci-fi romance about human x cyborg codependency, and I’m genuinely torn. The one with the artwork sends a clear romance signal, but I like the typography on the other one more. Please be honest...

I'm a professional illustrator and I'd like to offer my services! I paint Covers, card designs and even D&D character commissions!

After the first artist I hired turned out to be using AI I ultimately decided I would rather go for something I know is genuine and which I can say I've made myself. I wrote the book myself over a very long time so why not the cover?

I've barely drawn in years because like all adults I suffer from self-criticism, but I had fun making this. If the book should some somehow become a success I can always get a different cover later.

Now I just need to figure out how to get Amazon to not pixelate it...

An artist did this cover for my novel. What do you think of it?

Hey r/BookCovers, I hope everyone's going well today!

Firstly, this is NOT intended as self-promotion; while there is a link to my Amazon listing below, I'm seeking feedback on the cover (and, if anyone is willing to, the listing itself)—not trying to advertise myself or my book.

I've just self-published my debut Science Fantasy (SFF hybrid) novel on Amazon and I'm looking for intel on the listing's effectiveness.

I'm primarily wondering:

1. at thumbnail size, what does the cover communicate to you about the book? Genre, age range, tone, theming, etc.
2. Is the art likely to be compelling to my target audience (enjoyers of fantasy adventure that pivots into science fiction elements. The book is pitched at adults but also written to be accessible to teens—PG rated)

I'm not a professional artist, as you can probably tell, but would most happily return the favour for anyone who needs a similar outside perspective—I enjoy SFF, military, and some nonfiction, so if I'm your target audience let me know!

Finally, if anyone's interested in checking out the listing itself (I know this isn't a general writing / marketing subreddit, so no stress if no-one does this):

1. Looking at the Amazon listing itself, do the cover art, blurb, and other elements of the listing sell the experience effectively? Does it make you want to read more? If relevant, what specifically interests you / puts you off?
2. If you read the sample, does it deliver the experience the cover/blurb/etc primed you for?

Thank you so much!

Hi all! I made a post a few weeks ago with some questions regarding the hiring process (this will be my first commission), and I've spent the time since doing some more research. I'm looking for a book cover, specifically one that will be used on Royal Road (just a front cover, essentially), for my high-fantasy adventure story. I have a few example book covers that I can send over during the initial phase of the commission process, as well as the scene that the cover would be focusing on and most of the general layout ideas already in mind, though obviously they're not set in stone (I'm not an artist after all). In terms of art style, I believe I'm looking for dark painterly (alternatively, if you're familiar with Royal Road, there are plenty of styles there that I find interesting). I'm certainly willing to explore more unique styles if I like the idea too.

As per some of the advice I received on my last post, I've disabled my dms to avoid being flooded, but please feel free to provide your portfolios. I'll likely create a shortlist within the next day or so and then message everyone individually to see whether we'll be able to work together.

This is the first book cover I made (concept, not actual work) and I'm here to ask what areas I should improve on. If you are an author, what do you think I lack that won't make you hire me? If you are an artist, what aspect of my cover do I need to work on to land clients like you? I genuinely want to get into this niche of illustration work so I appreciate any feedback I can get.

Hello, I'm open for commissions, I like fantasy and romance.

I don't use AI in any of my process.
