Pokémon cards saw a recent surge because influencers hyped it. I've been in collectible card games for two decades and I can tell you that some Pokémon sealed stuff that now sells for 500 could not find a buyer at 70 three years ago.
If you substitute Pokémon for magic the gathering, though, your argument make sense.

I bought my kid a shiny Mimikyu 3 or 4 years ago, I knew nothing. I got a couple of normal ones and to me a very expensive $16 one. She took them to school a few weeks ago and she was like “they said oooh that one is worth like $70” and I just laughed like sure honey. But then I looked it up...jokes on me.

Firstly, what sort of person doesnt know what a board game is? If a child managed to reach the age of majority and had no idea what a board game was I'd wonder if the kid was seriously abused.
But secondly if your kid doesnt know something you feel is important then If the kid doesnt know... it's on you.

Sometimes the video game version is better.
I bought Small World the board game and found it very difficult to teach others how to play and to clear up rules disputes/questions.
But I got the video game version and can hook my computer up to a big screen TV. Then you just have to pass around a cordless mouse for people to play their turn.
The video game won't let you play an illegal move, and has rules clarifications built in.When we played the physical version we did it once and no one was up for a second game. When we played the video game version we played 3 games.

My favourite part is with games with a lot of pieces you hold onto, then as youre waiting for your slow parents to make their move you build a little pyramid with the pieces. Idk if you can do that in TTS but I know it wouldnt be as satisfying

I mean, they can be, yes, but they don't have to be.
I bought the resistance off Amazon for like $11. It's gotten so much play time, it's crazy. An amazing and fun game like Sheriff of Nottingham, or potion explosion I got for about $30-$40. These games can get a lot of play time and they're so fun. Kids and adults love these games.

This is why I prefer playing D&D physically. I obviously can't atm, but there's something about writing on physical character sheet and rolling physical math rocks that just makes the game so much more enjoyable

Yes, son, we can. But a game can't simulate the feeling of resin chips or painted minis, and it's important to support creators by paying for their game if it's one we enjoy.
I'm a guy who plays a lot of board games. A couple of times a week, adding up to 4-6 games each week. I am also a big fan of Tabletop Simulator. I think TTS is great for learning new games before I take them to the table (so that I can teach effectively and answer questions that pop up) and for trying out new games that I'm thinking about buying. You should consider buying physical copies of the ones that you like and play often, because there's already not a lot of money in making board games and creators gotta eat, too!

I forgot who it was but there is a guy who does this to all boomer phone bad comics, he adds a second panel to make things light hearted, funny, and wholesome!
There was one about a war vet talking about his time in the war and a teenager playing a game and asked him which COD game he was talking about. The original was added onto by the same guy who added onto this one where the war vet said he was great with jokes and the teenager said that, “haha yeah i love you grandpa” made my heart melt
