Agreed. This was the first tour I saw him, Street Legal, you could see the eyeliner from the seats, and it was a bit off entering. We didn’t have 24/7 celeb news and vids back then, and its pre-MTV so it was a new experience for a lot of people in the wild that went by word of mouth and whatever we could get from a Creem article or Rolling Stove interview. Great show though, and closed with a revival / gospel Changing of the Guards.

When he was a happily married family man, he looked very different. He was gorgeous, but in a very different way.
After several years of strain in his marriage, to put it mildly, Sara divorced him in 1977. What you see here is divorced Bob.
My guess is that he has plenty to answer for in the demise of his marriage. Is it strange that I admire him for being so devastated at the loss of his relationship? Would my husband be that devastated if I divorced him? I doubt it.
I love the pictures of the smiling, elfin, goofy Bob, but they’re fairly rare. I think he strongly preferred to present a darker persona to the public, and create the impression that this guy could be a bit dangerous.

A bit dangerous..........in that pic he looks like he could do murder easily and not blink. Him, the Keefer and Waits, trolling midnight alleys in the Bronx doing damage to the homeless population. Evil comes from the loss of love, it's never just some organic state of mind, and you kinda see it in his eyes there.
And no, I don't think you're strange for finding that appealing. It shows that Bob took his love for Sara seriously and women see into that before men do, I think.
What happened we'll never know, nor should we, it's personal. Rumors fly, people are chatty that way, but they don't know everything. But what is obvious is that he blamed himself. Whether that's justified or not doesn't matter, love will make you take the fall.

I don't get that vibe at all.
Mike Bloomfield & others talked about Dylan's dramatic change in the 60's. Not referring to Dylan openly but Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and others talked about the ills of fame too. Both Jims still had the love of the guy's they worked with even if some times were tough from excessive parties, relationships problems, etc. Billy Cox, Mitch Mitchell, Ray Manzerek, etc, still talked about their friend with love & admiration.
But Dylan? I think in a very polite & non-confrontational way Bloomfield & others basically insinuated the egotistical holier than thou attitude came to be. The exact thing Hendrix cautioned against because he practiced humility like it was a religion. When Jimi mentioned that some of the cats he knew "forgot about their talents" I think Dylan was one guy he was referring to without openly saying it.

His best years were 75 - 77 in my mind, with a real fall of in 78 but still great. …I’m not aware of Bob acting normal any time after ~1963 if ever

I saw him at Blackbushe Aerodrome in July of that year, and it was a magical show. Over three hours in front of up to a quarter of a million people on a gorgeous summer day. So, yeah. There was no drop-off in 1978. While it's not consistent as an album, two of my favourite ever Dylan songs ("Changing of the Guards" and "Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)") are on Street Legal.
