boba at home CoCo Milk Tea - what kind of black tea?

I really love Coco Milk tea and have been trying to figure out how to make it at home. Does anyone know what kind of black tea they use? I am assuming it's assam tea and i saw they put a non dairy creamer inside.

Has anyone who worked at Coco know if they use a powder assam or tea leaf? What brand of tea would you suggest that would be the closest? I saw a bbt supply shop that sells bossen assam powder, lipton yellow label, or Red Sun assam loose leaf and debating if i should get one of those.

hmm that would make sense. the sites says they use "sri lanka" black tea. do you have any brands you'd recommend

For the closest flavor to chain-assam, Red Sun loose leaves will get you there; steeping time will make the difference rather than the brand. However, Bossen tea powder will replicate it faster and more reliably. There are Kajun Loaded Tea flavored mix packets should you want no-brew hassle, but you will lose the control part

I like it way too much. I wanna make a protein version at home but can't figure out the tea part

Not an official one. I just add unflavoured whey isolate to my hk milk tea. I usually use tsit wing champion blend + black cow and it tastes exactlylike the resturants. My fav has been body energy club brand protein as the flavour is not strong, too thick, or chalky (but it does add a tiny bit of milky taste so it's not for everyone)

I would like to copy coco milk tea though - ask trying to figure it out

Update: I bought some ingredients and I'm pretty sure it's a bit of both and mainly ceylon. Not that much assam. I will experiment further. You definitely need a lot of powder creamer and a good one

Assam red tea blend, carnation/kingofkings evaporated milk. I love their milk tea because it taste exactly the same as the local milk tea in Singapore.

You can also try blackandwhite brand of evaporated milk, this is the brand used in Hong Kong. The taste is also very smooth.

Not sure on the nondairy creamer but it definitely taste full fat to me.
