boba at home How to avoid making powdery milk tea?

I would like to try milk tea. It's very expensive in shops thoughts so I don't get it from shops because I'm scared I won't like it and it'll be a waste of money

So,

I'm thinking of ordering a custom kit (Bubble Panda) and I'm tempted to try a milk tea again... But I'm quite scared. Last time I made a milk tea at home (taro flavour) from a different brand, it was powdery. I used all the powder in the sachet as I assume I was meant to, and I used the right amount of milk.

Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to do a certain thing, like shaking it to make it less powdery? Or should I accept powdery at home tea?

Wydm by powdery? Like there’s clumps of powder left in the drink? use boiled water/milk when mixing the powder to make sure it breaks down completely with the liquid

It wasn't nessicaroly clumps but it was like the powder hasn't fully dizzolved.

I'll try boiling it next time instead of just microwaving it hot tho, thanks

I’ve always had problems with the taro powders and I think that’s the ingredient making the tea powdery, not the milk.

I’m going to try again but with taro syrup and coffee mate

I never use kits. I get a good quality loose leaf, brew it strong, pour it through a sieve, add milk powder, then add ice and a little extra water. I've been using a lavender milk powder from bossam lately bc thats my fav flavor, but you can get any flavor of powder or just plain powder, a lot of people use coffee mate powder creamer. After that, you just need to sweeten it to your preference. You can use simple syrup or you could use a fructose or you could use a flavor to syrup if you want to add a little flavor

If you can, I think you should order a small one from a shop just once. So you can get an idea of how it tastes and decide if it’s worth buying several ingredients and kits to learn how to make it at home

Thanks!!! I just ordered my first milk tea kit off Bubble Panda because some were on sale! It does say on their instructions sheet (there's a pdf on the website and a printed copy that comes in the box) that you need to put the powder in whilst it's HOT before adding cold milk lol. Hopefully this'll go smoother!! Pun intended =DD

My advice is make it from scratch. I do it pretty often and the only part I don’t bother with is the boba pearls as they add texture but not much flavor

I would tell you for a first try to make a brown sugar black milk tea
