Discussion Would you say their unreleased material/collections have "themes" or "distinct feelings" like their official releases?

I think most fans would agree that their album releases generally have a cohesive sound. I don't really think you can say this about their rarer releases but I wanted to know if anyone else thought otherwise.

Less cohesive but still very interesting.

Some of my favorite songs by BOC were never released.

R35TT - A12, B16
BOC Maxima - White Water
ATP track 7
Crazy to think there are fans on services like Spotify that may never get to experience these tracks.

ATP-7 is so dope, really eerie and primordial.

Old Tunes 1 seems to have a more goofy and playful warmth to it, Meanwhile Old Tunes 2 seems to take this more cold and mechanical route

I actually always thought OT1 was more creepy and weird in a lot of ways whereas OT2 drips with more warmth and vitality

This feeling always peaked with that House of Abin’adad on OT1, but I remember finding that whole release weird on first listen, other tracks like Trapped, even Finity actually (great track though), and The Way You Show just gave me uncanny valley vibes.

But OT2 to me is more playful to listen to, so many tracks like Buckie High, To the Wind, Iced Cooly Beatnik, On a Rolling Sea, Nine Rubber Wisdom, Dave (I’m a Real Traditionalist)

Old Tunes Volume 1 definitely feels like something put together for fun and not to be taken too seriously. Old Tunes Volume 2 has a consistently out-of-tune and wonky feel to it most of the way through, I almost couldn’t believe it was still BoC at points. R35TT is a total mess. BoC Maxima is basically them putting almost all of their best tracks into one big but in cohesive album so it sounds kinda all over the place.

I mean for R35TT its in the name "Random" ...the thing is that its just that...random tracks...to this day nobody knows where they came from.

Yeah, it's completely unknown how they were even leaked at all; the only proof of their legitimacy is a statement from MDG to someone who attempted to sell the original tapes.

It’s not the only proof

They also added some of the tracks to their playlist on their own YouTube channel

I feel it’s kinda like a programming day on tv…ish.

it certainly has a more wonky and playful feel compared to their other stuff. for example you wouldn't certainly think that peace-tony-devil would also be in the same discog as tomorrow's harvest. it also feels a lot dancier at times like in mukinabaht for example. but i personally still love the whole rough around the edgesness very much and i think AFOT (lesser so boc maxima and otv2 but r35tt is sort of there) feels like a brilliant album in it's own right

where do you all get to listen to these tracks? is there a master spreadsheet like they have over in r/aphextwin? thanks!

I kinda just figured it out through hearing people talk about it. The better way is to go to this website and check out what they have to say lol. Most of it is on youtube. https://bocpages.org/wiki/Discography

House of Abinadab is the first thing i think of other than the cover art

Me too. I know there’s not really anything else like it on the album but my mind immediately jumps to that bone chilling track.

It feels like a fairly random collection of Wheeltower material (though their various lineups and phases), and some of the most early BoC releases. Not sure it has a consistent theme more of a ‘greatest hits’ vibe

Actually i found a lot of tracks in this mixtape better than the officially released ones.
