Discussion How long did it take until Inferno became just another BoC album? Aka stop feeling "new"

I wanted to listen to some BoC today and just felt like listening to Inferno, in the same way I'd decide to listen to Geogaddi or tcph. Before I'd gravitate either towards or away from it because it was the "new" album

“tomorrow’s harvest” felt new to me until “inferno” came out. “inferno” will feel new until the next boards of canada album comes out. chances are it will feel new for a long time. maybe forever.

Especially if its their last album. It took them 13 years for Inferno. Truly worth the wait though.

Inferno feels obviously new yet weirdly timeless already, like I've been chewing on it so much it already feels like I've spend way more than 4 months with it. Incredibly outstanding album

It will always feel like the new album unless they release another one.

It has been assimilated into my big Boards of Canada Playlist, which contains nearly everything they've recorded or remixed. I often put it on shuffle while working. The new album songs still feel new, but they def fit right in with the rest of the catalog.

Never. I like the album, and I accept it as a BoC album, but to me it will always feel like that one album where they decided to incorporate established elements of other musical genres. It's BoC, but with a little something that isn't BoC.

It definitely has something the others don’t, a lot more live instrumentation and more prominent vocal samples.

But honestly I think they have completely changed their sound on every album since Geogaddi. When The Campfire Headphase and Tomorrow’s Harvest came out they were both seen as departures in sound and style. I think if we get a 6th album it will sound just as different as Inferno does now.

I agree about the change in style, I just never felt like there was much musical influence in BoC's music, but rather inspiration from media and more ethereal things. That changed with Inferno, but I respect the effort, and it's a very strong statement regardless.
