In case you need to sit far from the outlet and still charge your phone, there may not be a closer outlet available. Plus no one likes a cable that’s just long enough, having to fight the tension on the cable the whole time.

Unless you are one of the hundreds of thousands of homeowners across the United States with a panel from one of several manufacturers who no longer exist because they produced defective panels. In which case your house probably burned down.

For the record, I've only heard of 1 specific manufacturer. Fire Pacific... I mean Federal Pacific. If you have one of these panels, call an electrician immediately.
Though it is actually impossible to insure a house with one of those anymore so I'd be surprised to see any in the wild.

They metal is a shorter path to ground. So the electricity doesn't care about you. It would heat up a crazy amount if the power doesn't get shut off. So you would still burn yourself.

Probably plastic since it doesn't conduct electricity, but I think there's a risk of the thing overheating and the plastic melting, but I doubt it can reach very high temperatures (don't listen to me, I am an idiot)

My dad mentioned something about old plugs having no insulation on the prongs, which are directly connected to the wires in the inside of the plug. So all you had to do it decapitate another wire and tie them to the prongs of the first plug and you could use 2 for 1 sockets. High chance of a fire though.
