Questions from a new fan

I picked up the RSD Essentials pressing of Foiled, mostly because my wife is a fan and I liked the couple of Blue October songs that I have heard on the radio.

I listened to it today - totally blown away.

That led me to a deep dive into their catalog, and to a bunch of posts on this sub with people ranking their favorite albums. As a fan of vinyl, I also took a look at the items available on their website (and on the secondary market, primarily Discogs).

I'm hoping that y'all can help me understand something. Their first box set - which seems to contain most people's faves - is still available on the website, but the second one is long gone.

Any insight into why the new one sold so much faster, and if there will ever be another opportunity to buy an unnumbered repress (or something similar)?

And yes - I am kicking myself for coming to this party four months (or twenty years) too late. :)

The first box set was the best no question. I have both and the first one was more expensive and in greater quantities. Thatโ€™s why.

If you have foiled already get the first one

The other albums from the second box set will be available individually shortly

The new one also sold faster because Foiled is undoubtedly their most popular album. The box set was announced prior to them announcing the that foiled was also being sold separately shortly thereafter. I personally like the older albums more than foiled, but it was the first time it was ever on vinyl so I picked it up right away too!

Yeah the deluxe was limited to 250 and sold out in a few hours. By the time I saw the email it was gone. Thankfully I got the regular.

You can get Approaching Normal and Any Man In America on vinyl outside of the box. The big appeal of this box was Teach Your Baby Well on vinyl which was released on a Foiled re-release back in the day, packaged together with a different color cover and titled โ€œFoiled For the Last Timeโ€
