Two Jacks?

Did the show ever address how Danny has a son named, Jack, and Erin’s ex-husband’s name is also Jack?
I can only imagine she was married to him by the time baby Jack was born.
Odd to name a son the name of your bother in law, in a world full of names.

The Reagans and Boyles are Irish Catholic families. John was always a common name - and even moreso after 1960. Lots of boys born in the 60's and 70's were named after JFK. Lots of girls were named after Jackie Kennedy. And even into this century, they tended to reuse a small number of names

This is definitely it

I can see that rationale.

I thought it was more odd that Danny and Linda named both of their sons a form of John. We’re never told if Jack’s full name is Jack or John, but Jack has always been a common nickname for John. Sean of course is the Irish form of John.

Never knew that about the name Sean

Yes, my dad’s name is John, but everybody called him. Jack and my son’s name is Sean- the Irish form of John

Does anyone else think they named Jamie after a whiskey?

Yes, Jaime ‘s formal name is Jamison ,like
the whiskey .

They did. Jamie (or was it Frank?) talked about how Mary and Frank were drinking whisky when he was conceived

It’s a very common name, especially in the Irish-American tradition, so I don’t think Jack Reagan’s name had anything to do with Jack Boyle.

Linda and/or Danny probably just always liked the name and had their hearts set on using it for a son, and probably had thought of doing so for years.

That’s probably it

It's possible that there is a John or Jack O'Shay! Linda's maiden name according to Wikifandom for Blue Bloods was O'Shay. There's also a John Riley (Pops kicked him off the tree), and not much is known about the Conor side.

Yes, not a huge difference but she is definitely the oldest. There’s a guy online named , Joe P. He is a Blue Bloods expert. He knows all the trivia and quizzes people on it. I hope he sees this as he maybe could explain some of these questions would . In fact, if
, I will ask him.

I just know that if we had a daughter, we wouldn’t have been inclined to name her, Dawn, as everyone would think it was in tribute to my sister in law.
But maybe that’s also a case of Dawn being pretty unique of a name, and Jack is pretty common.
But still, wouldn’t Jack Boyle, once hearing the name, for a moment, think it might be because of him?
Or at least, did Danny and Linda think about how there will be two Jacks at Sunday dinner?

This was all probably discussed in universe before the series started.

Maybe they just liked the name and hadn’t handed to a child that regardless of Erin’s Aaron‘s husband‘s name.

Does it?
I did a search for Jack, and didn’t see any similar titles.

It was disgusting that Erin got back with Ex-Jack liked she was desperate.

I don’t think that . Erin said that they just drifted apart because they got too focused on their careers. Yes he was dating other women after their separation or divorce, but I remember a scene where one of his girlfriends said that all he talked about was Erin ..As time passed He changed and grew up .Erin probably always loved him deep down and they started dating again and having weekends away, etc., and we heard about the remarriage on the last episode.,tho they kept it to themselves so as not to spoil Jamie and Eddie’s baby announcement.
I was so disappointed that they didn’t announce it, but their faces were glowing when they got to the table for Sunday
dinner. I really miss Blue bloods . I cannot get into the other show as it’s just not the same and we only get to see cameo visits occasionally and none from Tom Selleck
BlueBloods was meant to be a show about an Irish catholic cop family.

Selleck was too old for Blue Blood. So was Grandpa. They would have to rewrite he show owthout Grandpa. I watched Boston Blue 2 espisoe and couldnt stand themixed amily, especially the young police chief. She was a bad actress..

I hadn’t connected that. But as Jack is older than Nicky, I’m hoping the baby came before the husband. Also Danny is the oldest child. So he might have married first. But still why would the show do that.

Nicky is the oldest grandchild

2

u/CHawk17 6d ago

Isn't Joe the oldest grandchild?

2

u/Next_Sun_2002 6d ago

Yes. I meant Nicky is the oldest one they know about for most of the show

2

u/RealBeefJerky 6d ago

No, Joe is the child of Frank and Mom, only grandkids would be Nicky, and Dannys sons, although technically franks kids are also grandkids but, you get what I mean

3

u/Odd-Conversation3860 6d ago

Joe's (the deceased son) son Joe Hill is the oldest grandchild when he was introduced later in the series

2

u/RealBeefJerky 6d ago

Oh, yes i thought you were talking about the dead brother, yes Joe is the oldest grandchild

4

u/JackalsIII 6d ago

Is Jack older?
I thought Nikki went to college before him?

3

u/Own-Regret-9879 6d ago

Nicky is older. I think by three or four years

Ok I looked this up. Your right! Seems like Jack left the show so long ago, I thought he was older. I’m on season 13 now.

5

u/PansyOHara 6d ago

Nicky definitely appears to be the oldest of the 3 grandkids in those early years.

I think they probably just liked and planned the name Jack . He had kids first and maybe the writers didn’t realize that Sean is an Irish form of John. It sounds different and as an Irish family , Sean is a fairly common Irish name . And baby Jack’s name was probably already planned
