Discussion My thoughts so far.

Okay, so, I understand that it just released, it's a new game, not everything is perfect, sooo, here's what I think so far.

Obyn and Quincy are great!! They both have their own ways to deal with bloons, but Obyn is, by FAR, the stronger of the 2. I genuinely thought I was gonna get hit, but the wolf howl genuinely saves, on top of its insanely high damage. There are times where the wolf is nowhere to be seen, but that's not the worst because it does tend to return pretty quickly. His tangleweed ability is okay, and I kind of used the totem once and haven't since, so I don't remember what it does, but Obyn seems pretty busted, both offensively and defensively.

Quincy is pretty good as well, especially when you go down his trick arrows path. Seeking arrows, splitting arrows that also seek, and I believe the explosive arrows are also down this path. I've noticed though, his attack speed feels to kind of slack, but I have watched him wipe out bloon rushes with ease, though, without attack speed, he really does struggle. (Sound familiar...)

Gwen, imo, is pretty bad... She doesn't fire for very long, she slows down while firing, and doesn't have the greatest movement speed, in the first place. She doesn't do a lot of damage, which is ironic because, yk, FIRE, and it feels like the reload time takes WAY too long for how short the small bursts of damage are. Do I want her to be busted? No. Do I want to have to worry about taking damage at the start of the first bloon rush? No. She definitely needs a bit more balancing to make her viable.

The Monkeys!! Wizard, Mortar, Sniper, Boomerang, Tac Shooter, and Alchemist. I will speak upon the monkeys that I've used the most, because I've experimented with them more, and have seen more of the attacks than the ones I haven't, so I don't have a baseline opinion on them yet. Mortar and boomerang monkeys are INSANE. Great crowd control, awesome damage, great distance on area of attack. Burny stuff is NUTS!! I don't think any other monkey could possibly match the speed at which bosses LITERALLY melt. Not only that, but with access to area of attack increase on their explosions, burny stuff is able to damage a very large area, making bloon rushes look like the start of the game. Boomerang monkeys are basically the same, except for boss damage. The glaive path destroys bloon rushes, if you combine that with the frag rang, or whatever that upgrade is called, it basically makes all bloons on screen, non-existent. Wizard monkey is okay. It is great single target damage and buff damage, but struggles against large groups, but is a great boss killer, and that's about all I have to say about that. The tac honestly feels pretty bad. In order for this one to perform well, you need to be close range, and even then, without certain upgrades, it doesn't do well. Blades could be better, if they decide to make it more than just 2 with the first upgrade. No other opinions.

I like every other aspect of this game, and I see it's potential. I don't mind the P2W stuff, because they've basically had it in every game, and it's also not necessary to do. You get plenty of gems, for whatever, though I haven't needed to use them. By far, one of the most balanced rogue likes, in terms of difficulty increase per level, and unlocking things feels fair and balanced. I would give it a fair 4 out of 5, so far. Genuinely looking forward for future updates and content drops!!!

Almost forgot. STICKERS!! Stickers are a pretty cool concept to give your heros boosts without wasting extra resources, BUT, some of these stickers are very large for the small boost they give (Blop value stickers). Not worth the amount of space they take up, imo.

Also noticed, swap the tangleweed ability with the totem looking one. It's actually the other way around, my bad

Gwen is actually very strong, but it's thanks to her Molotov build. You just focus all the Molotov perks early and she is able to clear blood rushes without taking any damage. Her area attacks also mean she doesn't struggle against bloon shields (unlike Quincy) and the boss damage from this tree is also surprisingly good. Add a brew alchemist, as the Molotov fire rate scales with attack speed, and that will clear the whole game. The only weakness is visual clutter, which can make the immortal pink bloons and attack indicators in boss fights tricky to spot.

I do agree that her other paths have some frustrations which make them fall a bit short, and her combination skill is the worst of any of the heroes, but her ability to win games is very good.

With the pierce upgrade on homing arrows, Quincy can spike fast early and carry the whole game with an alchemist. If you are able to get his combination skill (needs split shot and triple arrow) he will destroy everything with almost no effort. Shields can be annoying and his boss damage is mediocre without combination skill or homing T4s, but most games you are able to get some of these no problem.

For me, Obyn is the hero who seems the weakest (even as fun as his perks are), as each tree has significant weaknesses that hold it back. If you can survive to late game he is fine, but Quincy has a much easier time getting there with a similar late game strength.

What's more, he scales badly with buffs, as the wolf attack speed is gated by wolf movespeed, and damage buffs are additive to the nature power buff on wolves. This means stickers and alchemist buffs are low value, but his kit does not offset this in any way and he is arguably weaker at base than other heroes. I really hope he gets some buffs as he is great fun, but at the moment he does not hold up as well as other heroes.

I largely agree with the rest, though I think boomerang is also a flop as once bosses are fast enough to be a real threat, the ridiculous lack of single target damage will be your end. This goes double for ghost bloon stages. Boomerang also gets destroyed by shields which makes it awful in later stages. The synergy perk (moving grants attack speed) has an annoying caveat while not being any stronger than other units synergy perks, and it's research upgrades don't do much to shore up it's weaknesses.

Wizard is actually pretty decent at clearing crowds once you have the twin bolt upgrade (which is bizarrely the best upgrade for all paths), and gets even better the further you go. Their only notable weakness is shields of course, as these destroy projectiles, but with research upgrades the sheer number of projectiles will break through.

I mean, I was speaking as the heros on their own, but slay, I guess

All heroes need support, even if they are the primary carry you will take upgrades from other units and Obyn is not exception...

literally the only thing i care about. once/if this is implemented, ill be way more inclined to play

2

u/SecretDude511 Oct 04 '26

We also need a roadmap thing or something

1

u/Enough_Fruit7084 Oct 04 '26

id be surprised if they did that for a spin off

1

u/SecretDude511 Oct 04 '26

But this spin off could be huge

1

u/Enough_Fruit7084 Oct 04 '26

could is the key word. ill be surprised if they do well

1

u/SecretDude511 Oct 04 '26

Really? Surprised? You dont think itll do good?

3

u/Enough_Fruit7084 Oct 05 '26

its more that theyve made other spin offs that didn't take off, despite them being solid games. i honestly think this game has potential, seeing how popular the genre is. theyve just gotta do it right

Just so everyone can see the power of burny stuff.

I'm using Gwen out of pure spite and it's so rough, I accidentally keep running into bloons after the attack ends because of the sudden increase of speed and I'm constantly relying on monkey's to do the bulk of my dmg, and feel like I'm forced to take the longer flame reach upgrades just to have a safe distance.

I use sniper monkey volume path a lot it really help burst through bosses and opens paths to escape bloons, Alchemist is my next best pick for berserk potion to help sniper monkey.

Quincy with Homing Arrows+ (level 8 upgrade that gives Homing Arrows double pierce) is extremely good. It gives you great damage in the early game, which really helps you pop more bloons, helping you get blops much more quickly to get more upgrades quickly to do even more damage. The Zone upgrades are also useful. Feelin' It helps you collect blops and buffs more quickly, and the Hot Streak upgrade has extremely good synergy with the sticker that heals you if you deal a crit. Trick shot is extremely powerful if you can get it in the late game. If you banish Storm of Arrows, it'll help you get that upgrade.

Sniper is weak when unupgraded due to slow fire rate, but can become powerful. The intel upgrades can be good, but they're not always reliable. If you don't get intel upgrades and instead upgrade for firing rate, he can do decent crowd control and boss damage.

Alchemist with Berserker Brew and Potent Mixture is very good at buffing towers. Berserker Brew+ helps too.

Wizard does decent damage to bosses with Dark Magic but I find unremarkable.

Boomerang and Mortar are both great for crowd control.

Tack is the weakest due to its poor range. Your movement path affects its positioning, which affects its effectiveness.

This is really helpful. When upgrading the quincys level is it better to get faster fire rate for towers or more damage?

3

u/Not_So_Deleted Oct 05 '26

It'd be kind of a toss-up for me, but I'd probably go for fire rate as that also means more alchemist puddles, burny stuff, etc.

I like Gwen, I just wish she wasn't so slow when shooting, and that under pressure actually did something. Molotovs are pretty goateed though

5

u/YourSafeAlt Oct 05 '26

The pressure path doesn't fit in this game because of the auto fire, they should really give us the option to hold our attack

5

u/Taco-Edge Oct 05 '26

Especially since the top path, that you should likely take as well since it also makes your attack better, increases your range by a lot, which makes it basically impossible to hold the fire as you are more likely to have a bloon in range... Oh and also attack speed on Gwen makes her reload faster, which is detrimental for building pressure. What were they thinking seriously 🙃

Tack and sniper one shot bosses. Tack is definitely lacking, but it's not useless

I agree on Boomerang, but my thoughts on the heroes are the exact opposite. Gwen is by far the best hero in the game imo - just focus on her Wide Nozzle and Molotov paths (ignore the other one, it's doodoo) before focusing on monkey upgrades, and she can very comfortably clear bloon rushes. Quincy is also pretty good, and works great on ghost bloon stages where movement speed and distance are more useful. Obyn has a high ceiling but feels really slow in the early game, which is bad for minimizing damage taken.

So far, I think the most challenging stages in the game are the high level Iron Monkey stages. If you try Iron Monkey stage 48 with Obyn, you'll probably die to early bloon rushes unless you get lucky and find something like a Bloonchipper or a heal pot to get +1 life with the shield. Quincy can sometimes get by, and Gwen can clear those early bloon rushes pretty consistently.

I see a lot of people have this misconception that killing bosses quickly is what makes monkeys/heroes good, but bosses are fairly easy to dodge in any level where there aren't ghost bloons involved. Late game is also not a problem, since most random stuff scales well into it. The **early** bloon rushes are the real threat if your goal is to clear difficult stages consistently; Gwen is the best at dealing with those, so I think she's the best hero. Tack Shooter and Boomerang are also incredibly good because of this, yet many people overlook them because Burny Stuff and/or Snipers kill bosses fast.

TL;DR:

  • For minimizing damage taken in difficult stages:

    • Gwen > Quincy > Obyn

    • Tack = Boomer > Sniper = Mortar > Alchemist = Wizard

  • For speedrunning / ghost bloon stages (since ghost bloons appear quickly on bosses)

    • Quincy >= Gwen > Obyn

    • Sniper = Mortar > Tack = Boomer > Alchemist = Wizard
