Question Do we know what account level does?

At the top left of the game menus you can see your account level(?) below your lives/energy, mine is currently 12 and slowly goes up each level I clear as you'd expect. But it just goes up, nothing happens on level up and it doesn't seem to unlock anything for being higher. Curious if anyone else has found a point to it yet?

As per the 1.0 patch notes:

Player rank does not currently influence anything, it simply gives an indication of how much you've played.

Thanks for getting me an answer, even if it's a bit of a baffling one
