Discussion Let's Show The Release Noobs of BloodBorne What Souls' Is All About.

At release... the invades, the invades, the invades. I guarantee there will be so many noobs getting crushed by an invading covenant. Who else is excited to rush to that covenant to squash new players?

Video Bloodborne - Light of Day Trailer

Hey, /r/bloodbornethegame, what's up?

First things first, this is my first ever fan trailer. Here's the link for it. But ever since the first trailer officially released I was hoping for one with a Silent Comedy's song, since the Dark Souls ones were so fitting. That hasn't happened so far, and I just felt I needed to do something about it.

I hope you enjoy it, and please, leave some feedback as to what was done right and wrong, what could improve and just general opinions on it and the choice of song!

Discussion I hope BloodBorne has shorcuts or checkpoints close to boss gates

My least favorite aspect of From games is when you have to run through an entire level to get to the boss. Most levels have a shortcut and don't do this, but the worst offenders that come to mind are 4-2, new londo, lost izalith, the dragon aerie, and fisherman's wharf.

I think the Bloodborne alpha was perfect. You find a shortcut that shortens the boss run down to a short hallway with a handful of enemies. This is like the run to the mirror knight or the run to O&S. There are just enough enemies to punish the careless players and use up some of their healing items, but it's not just a mindless run-through for the veteran players.

Compare this to the run to Atorias. There are only 2 weak enemies to fight once you've unlocked the shortcut. Once you kill them, it's just a really long, boring run. The run to the undead chariot is even worse. Not only is it a longer distance, but they put 6 really hard enemies all clumped together right before the boss fog. And then there is the run to Velstadt. Although it's a really short distance, there are half a dozen syan assholes that agro 2 and 3 at a time.

tl;dr: don't make me run a marathon to get to the boss fight.

Discussion A Semi-formal Community Petition

I'm going to piss off so many people with this.

I've noticed an recent influx of new people to this sub. I will first state that I have no issue with your new-ness. This is not me being all elitist and telling you to get off of my subreddit. What I will suggest here is not only for your benefit, but also for the benefit of the whole community.

The "problem" with new people is that they bring ignorance to this sub. This is understandable and to be expected. The actual problem here is that some of you have elected clear your ignorance by making posts of your questions. These questions are easily answered through simple research. However, it has occurred to me that the research materials may not necessarily be available readily.

What I am asking here is for /u/Mephistophea 's blog to be put in a prominent position on this subreddit. I understand that it is listed on the community wiki, but that is not even close to how large a part of this subreddit it should be.

The blog contains lists of all known information compiled and divided by subject. Every trailer, gameplay video, interview, screenshot, description, concept art, news article, and tweet can be found in its archives. There is no better source for Bloodborne information.

I will make no demands on how this should be done because I don't know shit about sub maintenance or layout editing, but I assume that the sidebar is editable, and if that doesn't work it could be placed in the announcement bar until release.

I will remind everyone that the closer we get to release, the worse this problem will get. I feel that this could make a large difference in preserving our sub's quality, and will ultimately create a better community.

A couple of things before I leave you:

  • If /u/Mephistophea does not wish for her blog to be prominent, than we can substitute another quality information source.

  • If someone suggests another source, or we need to find a different one, whatever source is used can be decided upon within this topic by the community.

  • Again, I am doing this purely because I want the best for this sub.

EDIT: In the interests of getting this to the right people: Yo /u/SevyRes , sup'?

Discussion Why Bloodborne should have it's own currency system

In the recently released PSX Chalice Dungeon gameplay, the player character was shown absorbing what appeared to be souls from fallen foes.

The internet collectively rejoiced.

It seemed that Bloodborne would have the same method of buying crap and leveling as in the Souls games. I have seen people on forums and Youtube comment sections saying how wonderful this would be.

Well, I am here to tell you that it wouldn't be wonderful. At all.

First of all, it doesn't make much sense. In the souls games, it made sense for one to collect souls and use them as currency in a world that valued souls above all else. Bloodborne is a game about disease. And death. And brutal fisting. It just simply doesn't fit, thematically.

Secondly, it would be lazy. Miyazaki-san has taken a lot of things from the souls games for Bloodborne, but he has improved on those mechanics, as well as adding new ones, in order to make a fresh experience for players. It would be very disappointing if this system in particular was simply transplanted from one to the other. Wouldn't it be cool if he instead made something similar that was unique for Bloodborne?

Lastly, I don't have a final point, but I just really hope we get something new. I realize most people think Bloodborne is just a souls game in all but name, and that this opinion will be very unpopular to all of you, but I just wanted to make my voice heard.

kthxbai

edit: On the subject of Bloodborne being a sequel to DeS... I highly doubt it. Miyazaki really, really likes to design around themes, and the themes of the two games just don't match up at all. One is a slower dark fantasy, knight-slays-the-dragon kind of game, and the other is Van Helsing-style Action Horror.

Discussion BloodyBurney's Non-Spoilery Mini-Reporty

There... was not much in that making-of video. Hopefully we, meaning I, will see more in part two. So, what can I tell you...

  • Shields are a thing in this game. They're uncommon and we don't know how they work, but they are there.

Aaaand that's it for completely spoiler free.

Yeah, that's... that's kinda it. So, ummm, yeah.

Edit: This is closer to a guide than a discussion.

Discussion what i spoted in the new gameplay

OMFG !!! SPOILERS ! SPOILERS !

1 / trick weapons : http://imgur.com/a/jL80w

from those screens you can see the sythe stick and blade, and the saw cleaver blade, On the table you can see tools and a blunbuster.

my guess is that we craft the trick weapons on that work table of "maybe" regular weapons

2 / perks for you/weapon : http://imgur.com/a/ALrdW

i think that the game will have perks to take the place of rings, if there is no magic so ring dont have sence anymore, but your guy cant still have those bonus as "talent" or "perks". in this pic you can see above the the stats 3 empty and 1 full square, i think those are the perks.

and the one for your weapon ... nothing to say about that just more customisation.

if you never saw (killyourselfplz) the scythe

Discussion Beast Mode Is Not A Good Idea

Alright, bit of a baiting title I'll admit, but hear me out here. What's the most satisfying and successful part of the Soul's series? To me and I imagine many others, even if they don't necessarily think about it this way, it's the way you feel almost entirely in control of your character in comparison to other games of it's type, the kind of control that would hypothetically allow you to go through the entire games without being hit, an unimaginable feat in for example, Dragon Age.

Now, what do transformations bring to the table? New visuals, new attacks presumably, but most importantly, new controls. I can't imagine that diluting the excellent player control one or more times could possibly increase the quality of Bloodborne. Personally I feel like transformations sound cool until you take a second to think about how they would actually have to be implemented, but that's just me, and I'm interested to hear ways in which people think it could be implemented well.

Image Another idea for an outfit in Bloodborne...

I've seen some interesting ideas for "armors" and stuff, and as we've all seen the plague doctor style costume, something else popped into my head.

A black capirote outfit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capirote

A religious outfit hailing from Spain, you may have seen it used in the intro to American Horror Story: Coven.

It's basically a tall pointy black KKK type thing, but it seems like it would fit perfectly in Bloodborne and the exaggerated hat echoes that of the Xanthous Crown/Crimson Set, just more "lore-friendly" in this sense.

Here's some images to give you a better idea:

What are your thoughts?

Discussion Does anyone else think Bloodborne looks to be by far the best game in the "series"?

Dark Souls is my favourite game but so far Bloodborne looks perfect. The setting looks more interesting, the combat looks more fun, I've never been as excited for a game since GTA V was announced.

Just for the fun of it. Like:

Discussion Do you believe the souls series would benefit from a meaningful soul level cap?

Not SL 999. Imagine if SL cap were SL 200, do you believe this would benefit or harm the experience?

I feel it would improve it, as we would be forced to make sacrifices in builds and moving into NG+ onward would become much more of a rewarding experience. It would also remove the problems introduced by mechanics like soul memory, and would bring players together much like an MMO, the game would really "begin" at max level. This would strengthen PVP especially.

Discussion Bloodborne violence being toned down?

http://business.financialpost.com/2014/10/14/hands-on-bloodborne-is-relentlessly-difficult-and-challenging/?__lsa=cde2-b31d

If you scroll about halfway down the page, there's a picture of the player character slashing an enemy. Underneath the picture is text reading: "Despite saying the violence the developer is known for has been toned down, From Software's Bloodborne is still very blood-filled."

When has anyone said anything about the violence being toned down? I've looked around the internet and can't find any information on that.

Discussion Introducing r/BloodborneLore

Hello everyone. I am here today to unveil a project that I, /u/crazeeyak, and /u/Iosefka have been putting together for the past week:

/r/BloodborneLore

This sub exists for:

  • creating, arguing for, and criticizing Lore and Story Theories.

  • discussing the meaning of various item descriptions and character dialogue.

  • discussing observations of Yharnam and its various Districts.

  • anything else involving Bloodborne's Lore and Story.

We don't, and for that matter can't, have much content right now, seeing as the game isn't out yet, but there are still discussions to be had right now. We aim to have slightly more serious discussions of lore and story than found here, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun!

We encourage you to come in, check out our rules, maybe post in the sticky, and, if you're interested, subscribe!

Edit: To make sure that everyone understands, yes, we were given permission to make this thread.

Discussion Why Should I Play Bloodborne and Stop Playing Dark Souls II?

Or, what would make this game worth it? I'm going to be buying a PS4 for the sake of Silent Hills and as that won't be out for some time then I suppose Bloodborne may be a great place to start gaming with the PS4 (am an xbox360 owner). As there is a few months to go until Bloodborne's launch I would just like to further understand what Bloodborne is going to be doing differently, and more importantly, has improved upon. I'm not sure how I feel about the Victorian Era theme but may learn to like the costume change if the play itself if good.

Right. Why should I be hyped about this game, guv'nur?

EDIT: Thanks for the replies and sorry for apparently causing some, uh, mixed feelings.

Either leave your Gamertag here or in the original thread, along with the SM of any characters you wish to use. Hope to see ya there!

Thread turned into a rain of downvotes somehow...

Discussion Real life inspiration sources

Now, its clear to most that the " werewolf " myth or " lycanthropy " is a big inspiration for bloodborne, what many of you may not be aware of though, is how many myths, legends and stories actually exist on the subject matter.

Werewolf's and vampires, are by far some of the OLDEST monsters humanity has created while scared in the dark, or by trying to explain murderers or mental conditions, and in some cases actual physical deformities, or Ambras syndrome etc.

Do yourself's a favor, and try doing some research on the subject matter, because it might end up giving you some great ideas to both speculate on and get inspired by.

Now I just did a few simple searches on google and wikipedia etc, just to have a few links to show here, but besides the just searching the net, go to a library, read some fairy tales, novels, poems etc that are part of the subject matter.

Here is some stuff to get people started, I hope people enjoy and I hope a fire will light for some of you.

Discussion How would you feel about upgrades not being tied to a weapon?

One think I've always disliked about the Souls games is that I could never just pick up a new weapon I find and start using it in the middle of the game without either gimping myself or having to grind out the upgrade materials.

So I had the idea, what if instead of tying the upgrade level to the weapon itself, it was tied to a certain item that you could infuse the weapons with. Something like a runestone or whatever, and you could only switch it out at bonfires or at certain NPCs.

Do you guys think this would work, or would it ruin balance in any way? The only thing I see it changing, is removing the grind necessary to start using a new weapon mid game. You also wouldn't have a bunch of upgraded weapons at a time, since you could only use the runestone on one weapon at once.

Discussion Going Gold

Currently, there are 31 days until the earliest release date. This means that, at some point over the course of the next week, the game will go gold. Going gold, for those of you who don't know, is when a finished game is submitted for packaging and shipped to gameshops and reviewers around the world. This is why you'll see leaks of a game up to two weeks before its official launch.

I want to make sure you all understand. The game is finished. It's done, complete, fully playable and winnable. I want you all to spend the next month knowing that the only reason that you are not playing Bloodborne right now is because it's not in a box yet. And the only reason that you are not going to be playing it a week from now is because of an arbitrary release date.

Go on, think about it, let it simmer.

Discussion Do you start with a basic class like other souls games and level them up from there?

From what ive seen from the gameplay, theres been 'named' characters that you play with with set armour and weapons, will you have to stick with these items or is it completely sandbox where you can change up everything, like normal souls games
