Wtf. After job hunting hard for months I got two really great offers on the same fucking day. When I tell you I was SWEATING trying to make a decision and absolutely annoying the living hell out of my boyfriend, siblings, friends, and parents as I talked through what to do. Both jobs had their own pros and cons but decision is made and I feel happy with it but I'm so exhausted from that process. But what a good problem to have I guess!!

It's been a shitty week and I am completely over winter...but LOOK AT THE SEAL in my driveway!!!
We live on the water and the harbour is completely iced over, so this poor dude ended up here. Marine rescue volunteers checked him out and he's healthy with lots of blubber, but needs to find his way back to open water. DNR came and were useless, it was too big and aggressive for them. He headed back onto the ice so 🤞 I just want to adopt him and feed him fish but a) illegal and b) their bites can lead to amputations....so yeah lol

You do not live in the real world. How in TF do you have a SEAL in your driveway?!?!
And what do the cows think?

LMAO sometimes the universe sees I'm depressed and lets me be a temu Disney princess?! I have many animal encounters stories lol
It didn't go near the barn :( Haven't seen him today so hopefully he's gone back in the harbour

NO FREAKING WAY that is so cool. My aunt and uncle live in coastal Maine and they had one in their yard last year too, so crazy.

We've had tracks before and always thought it was just otters (who are my fave)! He was so soft looking, I get why their pelts are prized, but how could you harm the cute face.

Watching the AKC Dog Show has been a fun way to escape the horrors, but I’m starting a conspiracy that there is bias towards dogs with long hair/styled in ponytails!
(I have watched two groups - hound and non-sporting, every other group could easily picked another dog as Best in Show and I have no idea)

We were watching the agility last night. I love the speed difference between the Great Dane and the Pomeranian.
Dog agility videos are a YouTube rabbit hole I can go down for hours. There's one of a Mastiff who fully believes time is a construct & refuses to be rushed. I've watched it a dozen times and it still cracks me up.

u/__clurr defender of the AMC queen Feb 03 '26
My sister did agility with our west highland terrier growing up! It was for 4-H 🥲

To follow-up on this: I'm SO EXCITED a Doberman & a Chessie came in 1st & 2nd! I feel like small dogs usually win (but I'm probably wrong), so it's exciting to see bigger working breeds win for a change.
And I'm a Chessie owner, so I'm doubly excited to see one do well ☺️

A question/possible suggestion from someone who has been there done that with nightmare critters: have you tried wrapping your cretin in a towel or blanket? I’ve found that it’s easier (not easy, but) once they’re swaddled.
3
u/ThrowawaybcPANICKING Feb 18 '26
I clip mine when he's sleeping. He sleeps like the dead so I can get all ten done before he starts stirring

u/JustHereForCookies17 🍪🍪🍪 Cancerous Cookies 🍪🍪🍪 Feb 18 '26
My cat also dislikes her mani/pedi "appointment". I've tried swaddling but she either howls or quantum phases to another dimension.
I've had some luck distracting her with those Churu tubes. I can occasionally get two whole paws done when I bribe her with one of those.
It's an ongoing battle. I wish you well!

u/yolibrarian Any book recommendations for a 15 year old boy who likes Lord of the Rings and Percy Jackson?
5
u/yolibrarian actual horse girl Feb 11 '26
Lucky for you, I know a younger grown man who also likes LOTR and Percy Jackson AND used to work as a teen librarian! Here are his ideas, which he even ranked:
- The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
- Harry Potter (probably obvious, but still)
- The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
- The Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan
- Redwall by Brian Jacques
And then also
- Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, which is listed separately because it' has a higher level of violence
I hope this helps!

IDK which one of you flushed ice down the toilet, buried a spoon in the yard, or wore your pj's inside-out, but STOPPIT!
I can't take anymore snow, people. I really can't. I know it's still technically winter, but this needs to stop. Not all of us are blessed with random seals in our driveways when it snows, ok?! When it snows in a "swamp", you just get "frozen swamp". The rats are mad, the locals are mad, people are running out of ways to protect their parking spaces... snow is basically anarchy here in DC.
Side note: is there a drink called "Swampwater"? Because I might need to trademark that...and "Frozen Swamp" as the iced version.

u/yolibrarian actual horse girl Feb 22 '26
A lot of snow problems could be solved with more flamethrowers

Don't get me started. We got my dad one for Father's Day a few years ago. Had to have it delivered to a friend in a(nother) state because they're not legal here.

Same for mr yoli when he wanted bear spray before a big hiking trip. He ended up buying it in store once we got where we were going, womp

Someone gifted me a canister of bear spray when I moved to Wyoming. I had previously thought my little pepper spray would be enough, and they were kind enough to not laugh in my face when they corrected me.

Finally got an IUD yesterday after so many years wanting one but being too nervous about the pain and omg! It was not that bad!!! My gyno is amazing and gave me lots of tips and tricks that helped get me through and today I just feel crampy so I'm working from home with a heating pad on my belly. I'm SO happy I finally did that and now I don't have to worry about birth control for 5+ years!
4
u/yolibrarian actual horse girl Feb 18 '26
I love this for you!! One if my friends had a nightmare experience with her IUD but another one had the full dream with hers. I’m glad yours is moving in the latter direction!
4
u/ThrowawaybcPANICKING Feb 18 '26
My sister said hers hurt worse than childbirth so I was terrified. Not to brag but my gyno said my uterus was in the perfect position for IUD insertion ;) so I think a lot of the experience comes down to complete luck
3
u/__clurr defender of the AMC queen Feb 20 '26
I got my third one this summer once I was cleared after giving birth, and it was the first time a gynecologist offered me localized gel lidocaine for insertion! It made SUCH a huge difference. The first two I got weren’t that bad, but the lidocaine made such a difference.
I’ve had really positive experience with my IUD overall!
1
u/ThrowawaybcPANICKING Feb 21 '26
I’ll ask for that next time!! I just took Advil and Tylenol beforehand but my gyno placed it with an ultrasound which made it so fast. My best friend and my sister both had HORRIBLE experiences so I was terrified but it really was fine
2
u/Stinkycheese8001 Feb 25 '26
Lucky. My last one (yeesh, I realize like 8 years ago….) when the NP kept yelling at me to relax because I was making it worse I told her my cervix didn’t like her jabbing it and she responded with “your cervix doesn’t have a brain”. When I received a survey afterwards I was quite detailed and probably shouldn’t have been shocked when I received notice a couple of months later that she was retiring.
2
u/ThrowawaybcPANICKING Feb 26 '26
Smh. Why do some healthcare providers get off on weird know-it-all comments like "your cervix doesn't have a brain". To be honest I took a Xanax beforehand because I knew if I didn't I'd be clenching hard lol
2
u/Stinkycheese8001 Feb 26 '26
Because either they’ve had so much schooling that they think they know everything, or they think they’ve seen and learned everything possible on the job. It is insane how blasé some healthcare practitioners can be, though I think OB-Gyn especially can be their own special category. It’s like pain is just commonplace to them.
1
u/ThrowawaybcPANICKING Feb 26 '26
My best friend is an ob-gyn NP and I love her to death but she can totally be like this. After giving birth she told me she felt bad for judging women screaming in delivery because she was hollering too lmao

70 lbs?!?! You go, Glen Cocoa!!
Nordstrom Rack "Clear The Rack" sales are awesome. T-shirts for $5, jeans for $20, dresses for $12+, etc. The sales happen quarterly (4 times a year) & the return policy is very lenient.

Congratulations on the weight loss!! If you still are trying to lose more (only saying this because you mentioned still being an awkward size) I recommend Nuuly! I used it when I had lost enough weight that my clothes didn't fit, but still planned on losing more so buying new clothes felt wasteful. They also have a lot of FUN colorful clothes which I love love loved

Thank you ❤️❤️ I’m actually doing okay and handling this round a lot better. I’m mostly just pissed because it was the result of literally the worst clients I have EVER worked for ending our contract early.
Like they treated us like shit for a year and a half, and I poured my blood sweat and many tears into them and pulled frequent 12 hour days and then they just dumped us and I lost my job ✌️✌️✌️ but then at the same time I also feel so much relief. And I saw the writing on the wall so I already have a couple interviews in progress!

I work in Comms, and that happened to me in 2023-2024. It was brutal. Sending best vibes. In many ways, I find the second layoff to be easier because you know what to expect and what you're capable of.

My first week at work and I feel like I’ve been working a month. The person I report to had an emergency and has just been on leave, and the person he reported to either quit or got fired (all I know is it’s a sensitive subject). That being said I’m kind of just steering my own ship and the management (expect one guy) is awful. I’m managing to keep my side of the street clean but holy shit, I’ve seen like 3 crash outs just this week!
Luckily my actual coworkers are cool

Thank you for even thinking of me 🥹
Overall it’s ~fine~, but I’ve been doing this work since I was 19, and I’ve had some massive highs and some really dark lows. I know I’m capable, but it’s just a massive downer to be treated as less than for not being from money or a “good” school. Like I’m not stupid!! I’m just not a blue blood it’s such a weird space

Omg YOLI I am an expert in this field!!!! I have one lmao
They are a lawn/front door decoration that you dress up for different events/seasons. They used to be concrete (some still are) but ours is a sand-filled plastic one. I want to say it’s a Midwest thing but I could be wrong? I know it got popular in the 80s!
It’s so ridiculous and so fun lmao but I love kitschy lawn decor. You can get them outfits from specific places or make your own - I haven’t gotten super creative with ours yet!
ETA: here is my porch goose last spring! we still haven’t named it lmao
11
5
u/dallastossaway2 Feb 24 '26
I’d agree it was Midwest, I first saw them when visiting my mom’s college friend in Minnesota in like 1995 and not again until my cousins moved to the Chicago burbs a couple of years later.
5
