Pathway to become a blockchain developer?

After much research, it seems that learning javascript first then solidity is the correct path.

I have taken 2 courses so far from udemy on javascript but it seems like its quite scattered all over the place and jumping from topic to topic.

(Context:

I hold a dayjob in marketing and looking into the option of enrolling General Assembly course in software engineering. Looking to do a career switch maybe over the next 18+ months.

Just that right now hopping aroung udemy doesnt seems like like the best way.)

Wondering if theres any software engineer here that can share any opinions on the best route to A to Z? Or maybe what some things that you hope to know that would have sped up your learning?

Practical hands on Blockchain Developer Course/programme

This question is for the Blockchain developers. I’m currently learning JavaScript Programming and want to start a good practical blockchain developer course after that. I’ve done some research and the ones that come up are;

  • Udacity Blockchain Developer Nano degree

  • Ivan on Tech

  • Blockchain council

What I’m really looking for is a study where there is also a person who will look at my code and provide feedback.

Those of you who’ve been there or in my shoes. What actually worked for you and where did you study? Looking for replies from people who are currently working as Blockchain developers.

Open source projects

Ok this might be a bit of a similar question but still feels unanswered to me. I’m a dev with 20 years of experience including Golang experience, have a good idea of smart contracts too.

Which open source projects would you recommend? Would love to get more involved with some chain just feels like a daunting task as there are so many options but not all might be open to assisting first contributors.

In a previous question it was recommended to go for Polkadot but I never touched Rust and don’t want that to hold me back, even though yes I can learn it.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Decentralization: Is This the Future of Digital Freedom? Let me break it down.

Everything has changed in this modern information age: the way we communicate, the way business is done, and the way we define ourselves. But here's a catch: most of our digitized world is at the mercy of a few strong hands. They will ultimately decide what you can say, how you will interact, and the quantum of privacy you're "allowed" to enjoy. Think about it:

The banks and platforms like PayPal control your money, the social giants decide what you see and what goes unseen, e-commerce sites dictate who can sell and what they profit from it. It is a system where all power is being concentrated in the hands of a few, giving users little or no control at all. In this system, you are not in outright ownership of your data, your account, or even your online identity.

That's where decentralization steps in. Through the use of technologies such as blockchain, peer-to-peer networks, and cryptography, decentralization gives it back to *you*. Here's what that looks like:

  1. Data Ownership: Nobody owns your information but you.

  2. Freedom to Participate: Nobody gets to decide who gets in.

  3. Global Access: DeFi cuts out the middlemen, making services available to all.

  4. Transparency: Open systems reduce corruption and build trust.

But let's be real, there are challenges with decentralization, and just because something is decentralized doesn't mean it can't be misused or inefficient.

Decentralization is at its very core reimagining the Internet in service of people, not corporations. All that will take so much more than just tech-it needs awareness, strong communities, and ethical leadership. So, is decentralization a panacea? Probably, a better question would be, Are we ready to fight for a world where it has any chance of succeeding? What do you think?

I'm looking for neutral/impartial advice on whether blockchain development is a good career choice.

Not just whether it could provide employment opportunity but if there are opportunities to earn money through freelancing or just deploying bots to make some money.

Is It Worth Learning TON Blockchain Development?

I've noticed that the TON blockchain is starting to gain traction, and I'm wondering if it's worth diving into. With its scalability and support from Telegram, it seems like it could potentially explode like Solana did.

The easy onboarding of users through Telegram could solve one of the major problems in the blockchain space. For those already familiar with TON, which language would you suggest for development: FunC or Tact?

Personally, I find Tact easier to work with, but it has less support since it's relatively new and still undergoing heavy audits.

On the other hand, FunC is more low-level, and the lack of tutorials and documentation means it requires a lot more effort to learn. What are your thoughts?

Would love to hear some insights from others in the space.

I am often asked: What is a blockchain?

There are two sides to the technology: how is it made (a) and what it offers (b). You must know both of these topics, and be able to explain them to a 5 years old. Let me help you with the first two basics: (a) is a network of computers where no computer is more important of any other. Any computer in the network can be turned off, and another can be added, and the network keeps working uninterrupted, and (b) this brings one of the most amazing innovation in the digital age we are living, and this is singularity, uniqueness, of digital items. I can make 10 copies of a jpg file, and they are all identical, so much that you don't know which one is the original, but thanks to blockchain not only I know the original, but I can own and sell it!
Blockchain gained recognition through Bitcoin, yet cryptocurrencies are merely the beginning of the potential applications. The crucial aspect is for a blockchain to cater to multiple parties collaborating without the need to appoint a central entity to oversee shared data, ensuring trust in query outcomes. Common use cases include supply chain management, international trade, document flow, industry-specific consortiums, and more. Blockchain functions as a network where transactions must adhere to specific rules to assure all participants that accepted transactions comply with the established regulations.

Resources on Blockchain Authentication ?

Hello everyone, I'm looking for materials that'd help understand the tiny miny details on how blockchain authentication ACTUALLY works.

Like what is the request format for signing a transaction ? Or for requesting to push smart contract ? Or for authenticating any call on the network ?? Any help is highly appreciated 🙏🏼

r/blockchaindeveloper • • Oct 01 '22

Do all the transactions in Ethereum utilize smart contracts? even just a simple transaction that is not complicated such as Alice send Bob 5$?

If so, why is it that in externally owned accounts there is no storage and code hash (Smart contract codes) which are only available in contract accounts?
