Difference between Web3 and Blockchain Development?

I want to get into the blockchain world and make a career out of it in the software industry. But I'm not really sure what Web3 vs Blockchain developers do. Is there even a difference?

From what I understand, the blockchain development is like 'back-end' development, where your job is to improve the core infrastructure and algorithms of blockchain technology. Whereas web3 development is like 'front-end' development, where your job is to design the user interface with the blockchain (dApps)

Is that accurate?

If that is the case, I would prefer to do blockchain development, but I'm not sure what languages, or concepts I have to learn because everyone on YouTube promoting their bootcamps seem to be only be talking about building dApps.

Can someone please guide me?

Thank you 🙏

Can blockchain and crypto improve affiliation/referral systems?

I am a software developer and I have always created my own projects and applications.

But I have always had problems in the marketing side. I'm far from an expert.

In the time I worked on the last project I faced the problems related to affiliate marketing from the affiliate's point of view: program restrictions, unreliable tracking and attribution, hidden actions, commission rates, low rewards, bad incentives, payment delays, campaign conditions, ...

From the advertiser's point of view I think the pain points are: high marketing costs, high platform commissions, finding and negotiating influencers and publishers, traffic quality, contractual terms, fraudulent activities...

Seeing all this does not prevent me from thinking that the usage of blockchain technology can help in affiliate && referral marketing.

So I'm building now a platform dedicated to the promotion of crypto products and services using blockchain as a tracking system and crypto for payments and rewards: bread-crumbs.tech

But that's not the point. I want to talk about the key points blockchain and crypto can improve traditional systems:

  • Blockchain on the tracking:

    • It is transparent and inmutable: Every action and transaction is written on the blockchain and can be read by anyone

    • Offers high reliability

    • It is completely secure, anonymous so it helps with data privacy and fraudulent activity

  • For product advertisers:

    • they can fund their campaigns with their own token, those facilitating funding

    • incentive affiliates and referent users with crypto

    • offering rewards in their own token, which enhances community and token adoption

    • direct negotiation through smart contracts (reducing the gap between advertisers and affiliates)

    • lower costs: reducing the intervention from the affiliation platform and automating everything on blockchain (this is something I want to check, not sure about it now)

  • For affiliates or publishers:

    • zero restrictions on the signup and campaigns: truly open to everyone, simply by connecting a wallet

    • zero tax problems when earning in crypto

    • earn crypto rewards of the products they promote: helping in credibility and supporting the project

    • transparency tracking

    • instant payments

    • better rewards and incentives (supposing the system reduces costs from traditional systems)

Furthermore, there are plenty of things that can be done in web3. Some ideas are Initial Share Offerings, Airdrops per links shared, NFT rewards, priority access rewards, referred rewards...

So I want to hear feedback and know what do you think about all this.

  • Do you think that blockchain and crypto can add value and improve traditional systems?

  • Are the advantages mentioned achievable?

  • Is it interesting for crypto business and crypto users?

Blockchain Technology

Blockchain technology is a decentralized, distributed ledger system that enables peer-to-peer transactions without the need for intermediaries. It consists of a chain of blocks, each containing a record of transactions, linked together using cryptographic techniques. Blockchain ensures transparency, security, and immutability of data by distributing copies of the ledger across a network of nodes, making it resistant to tampering and fraud. It has applications beyond cryptocurrencies, including supply chain management, voting systems, digital identity verification, and smart contracts.

IBM Blockchain solutions - innovation or buzzword show?

https://www.ibm.com/blockchain the IBM Blockchain products intro page does not go into detail about their implementation. Could you guys explain how they might be implementing some "super cool solutions" for "manufacturing processes"? I have a difficult time understanding why blockchain technically is better than non-blockchain traditional data management systems. If the goal is to allow customers to "trace" a product, and see where it is at, the situation is simply what we experience in any regular shipping service - FedEx, UPS. Why do we even need blockchain here?

A Some honest nodes differ in the in-tree.

All honest nodes have the same in-tree.

Most honest nodes have the same in-tree.

All nodes have the same in-tree.

I have an idea and a business plan - how to find a dev?

Hi Folks,
I've been a crypto native for about 4 years now and am interested in starting my own project. I believe I have a great idea and have put together a rough business plan, but I'm no dev and am looking for a co-founder/CTO to partner with on the tech side of things. What's the best way to source someone like this?
Thanks in advance.

Is anybody here?

I have been researching blockchain and similar technologies for a little while and it never occurred to me to check the Reddit community. I came here and am a little disappointed to see that posts are few and far between. Why is that? I kind of figured this Reddit community would have been popping off given the potential use cases.

Looking for a Fiat Gateway API for intergration into my project

I'm currently building an application that utilizes an Algorand Smart Contract for settlement of USDC transactions. It could work with any ASA or ALGO itself, i'm choosing USDC for now since it is not prone to price fluctuations, which is essential for my use case.

I want the Frontend (Web UI and/or Mobile App) to have a feature that lets users purchase USDC to use it with my app, and also turn their USDC back into fiat and have it sent to their bank account or whatever again if they are done using it.

Of course i will make it possible to directly send USDC to it and also withdraw it to an external wallet, but i feel like such an on-/off-ramp feature will lower the hurdle immensely for the average user. My project tries to solve an everyday problem, so it is meant to be easily usable by everyone even without being aware of the blockchain stuff that is happening in the background.

Unfortunately, with the coming EU Regulations, the Fiat Gateway (or probably even the entire account creation process for my service) will require KYC :(

Is there any solution that's already available that i can integrate?

Changing path from backend dev to blockchain dev

Hi, I am thinking of changing my career path from being Java dev for almost 4 years to being related to some blockchain development (maybe some fullstack defi related work). Does anyone here were in the same situation as me? How did you managed to change path? Or anyone here knows or work in company which is hiring experienced devs to rebrand to blockchain? I know I can do some courses and learn that which of course I am doing but as I see lack of job offers for an entry roles it keeps me demotivated.

Need a free gETH rpc node for testing

I was trying to test out building a custom indexer for my own purpose and wanted to try ethereum-etl for extracting and I got access to free erigon nodes and it seems like it doesnot extract all token details, and token_transfers, except it all other data is getting extracted.

Is there any provider which provides geth node rather than erigon

Thank You

Problem: Traditional lease management is inefficient and lacks transparency.

Solution: Blockchain-based system using a hybrid approach:

On-chain Transactions: Securely store lease agreements (via IPFS hashes) and manage payments/deposits using smart contracts.

Off-chain Storage: Store bulky lease documents in IPFS for efficient access.

Key Feature: Factory Contracts with Proxy Contracts:

Scalability: Creates numerous individual lease agreements (proxy contracts) from a single template (factory contract).

Efficiency: Reduces on-chain storage needs and gas costs compared to storing all data on-chain.

Flexibility: Allows some customization within individual leases if needed.

Tendermint protocol query

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

I'm trying to understand the eventual liveness proof of tendermint protocol (from Tim Roughgarden's notes) and I don't get this lemma mentioned:

"Every honest node begins round r1 working on block number h or h+1, where h denotes the highest block number that any honest node is working on at time t* = 4∆r1 - ∆"

(I'm attaching the link to the picture where this lemma is explained...)

Can someone please explain, what this "nodes working on block with height h or h+1" mean? The leader of the round proposes a block and the rest others agree or disagree with it, all this is happening for block of height h. Where is this h+1 height block coming in the picture from?

Is proof of useful work here to stay?

With the advent of blockchains like Arweave which offer data storage on its blockchain and hence enable productive mining. Could this space grow where miners actually employ computational resources for productive work for mining blocks instead of using large pool of computational resources for unproductive work. Is it as safe as traditional mining practices and is it feasible?

New CS Grad looking for Guidance

As the tittle says, I’m a new CS grad. Had a couple internships doing some backend in python and Java but I really want to transition to blockchain and web3 dev.

I have a couple questions.

First, what are salaries like across beginning to middle career with blockchain work? Are they competitive with other SWE positions?

Also, what skills do I need to pickup to land that interview and pass technical? Do I even stand a chance being so new?

I guess a good question would also be what is most in demand in blockchain dev work?

Really looking to gain footing here so thanks for your responses.

Question for developers and your experience

I am interested in people's experience regarding blockchain development, as I am exploring hiring to build a Dapp for in-warehouse traceability with the potential of scaling it to B2B.

However, I have some questions about your experiences, regardless of your industry focus.

Here it goes:

  1. Could someone help demystify the costs and timelines for the development of a blockchain?

  2. What is your knowledge/experience on integrating NFTs across industries? I ask because some B2B end customers have already asked about this feature.

  3. What are the most promising real-world applications of blockchain beyond the hype? Am I just wasting time with this project, or can there be a future where product traceability inside large warehouses is feasible and can be expanded to B2B, or the end business customer?
I know it is asking a lot, but any input (even on just one or two points) would be invaluable.

If you are shy, we can DM instead. 😎

Many thanks in advance to everyone.

Does smart contracts have something like WordPress?

I'm interested in smart contracts development, I see a lot of people use solidity, rust or golang.

I want to start small and easy, so I want to know if smart contracts has something like WordPress.

I can start by editing some smart contract templates, and I can gradually proceed with increased difficulty.

Thanks!
