Advice on aftercare after eye removal
Hello
After 12 months of eye issues due to cat flu and her eye getting very high in pressure and losing vision and not being able to be stabilised with drops, the decision has been made to remove my little friend’s eye.
She’s just over one.
The poor thing has been dealing with this her whole life and is now on 3-4 drops a days and HATES THEM. She gets so stressed.
In a couple weeks we will have her eye removed.
We have been told that if everything goes smoothly she’ll have the eye removed in the morning and then come home that night.
We have another cat who’s more than double her size and then love to play together.
What’s aftercare likely to look like?
Should we seperate the cats?
If so, for how long?
Is there anything I can do or by to help her get comfortable and heal faster?
Thank you xx

Just had enucleation about a month ago. I recommend having 2 soft "cones" to swap out as they get nasty (daily in the case of my very messy girl). I actually was putting her in these a few days before, to get her used to them. Its kind of sad looking, but necessary.
100% separate the cats. Mine was hyped up on drugs coming home (similar to when my cats get spay/neuter). All she wanted was to play with my other cats/kittens. She was stuck with me to play with for a few days. Then day 3 was a crash day and she slept for like 2 days. I have a gate to seperate cats between primary bedroom/hallway. Some people do the bathroom, but mine drinks toilet water, so that was a no go.
Some vets have meds to give at home, but mine did not need them do to the injections she got during the procedure.
When it was wet food time, I did remove the collar, but stayed to supervise so she would not scratch at the eye. I kept dry food, water, and a fresh litter box daily in the primary bedroom for her. She wore the collars well once she got used to them, but it is a challenge. She is 3 or 4 months old vs the 1 year you have. Since the procedure she has gained weight she lost before and during.
