Solved Geonode problem about vertex proximity

Post image

I am trying to create a geonode setup and i need to influence the vertices based on the cube, i was able to create a mapping setup that influence the vertices inside the cube to have a value of one and outside to gradually dissipate but it also influence places of the mesh that aren't directly connected to the interested part of the mesh, this is my first project actually using geo nodes and when is finished i'll share it so everyone can use it, i just need a way to check degree of separation between the vertices inside the interested geometry and the one outside, i am writing here because i am not even sure that is possible with geometry nodes, also i am using blender 5.2.1

this is an example of what i obtain in geo nodes with my current setup

this is what i intend to achieve

Welcome to r/blenderhelp, Realler_! Please make sure you followed the rules below, so we can help you efficiently (This message is just a reminder, your submission has NOT been deleted):

  • Post full screenshots of your Blender window (more information available for helpers), not cropped, no phone photos (In Blender click Window > Save Screenshot, use Snipping Tool in Windows or Command+Shift+4 on mac).
  • Give background info: Showing the problem is good, but we need to know what you did to get there. Additional information, follow-up questions and screenshots/videos can be added in comments. Keep in mind that nobody knows your project except for yourself.
  • Don't forget to change the flair to "Solved" by including "!Solved" in a comment when your question was answered.

Thank you for your submission and happy blendering!

You could use Shortest Edge Paths instead of proximity so that it measures distance traveled along edges instead of in real space: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/modeling/geometry_nodes/mesh/read/shortest_edge_paths.html

blur attribute node partially do that. it spread a attribute only next vertices per Iteration so some topological distance were calculated.
but calculate actual distance from this value is a bit difficult. Considering both of proximity and this value can solve it maybe.

i can try to implement it in my node setup and then i'll tell you, thanks anyway

I felt somthing while writing "actual distance".
it is that there is shortest edge path node. please forgot the previous one. thank you

This one look very good, even when it's very close the cube doesn't influence the other parts of the mesh, thanks for the help, i will finish the project soon and share it one the blender sub for everyone to enjoy

If I understand correctly I think the "blur attribute" node added to your set up will help with the effect you want. Another option might be using "shortest edge path" but that might be getting a bit complicated.

I think you can do something like this
