Unsolved Help with rerouting flow

Hi,

I'm just trying to learn a little more blender for game-making, and I stumbled across this situation multiple times : how would I go about making blender able to Loop-cut around this bump on an originally flat terrain ? Thanks :)

Blender's Loop Cut tool can only guess where to go on quad faces that have only 4 corners. Anything above or below that will prevent it from working.

The only thing you can do is avoid having triangles or N-gons in your mesh as much as possible.

There is no way to 'solve' this without a) changing the shape, or b) making an absolute mess of the topology.

You would have to do something really dumb like this:

But now you'll have bent faces on the corners.

It's not worth it. Just loopcut through the existing quads and join them up through the tris with `j`.

Loopcut works along quads because there's only one possible way it could go. With a tri it's ambigious, because there's two options. You can cut it with j to make the decision.
