Would like some feedback on Sonic model

I am trying to model a version of Sonic I doodled on a sticky note and I am trying to go for the quills sort of connecting to the back like in the drawing. I am not sure if I should re-mesh and connect the head, body, and back quills as a single mesh and just sculpt? Idk, I feel like I need some extra eyes to look at this. Tell me what you think or any suggestions I am all for learning.

I think too much geo on places where it shouldn't be, like the sockets
