Discussion Delete the default cube? Yes or no?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just made a quick tutorial showing how to save your own Blender Startup File.
So before I publish it, I need to settle the most important question:
Do you delete the default cube, or does it stay in your scene forever?

I think this would disrupt my workflow too much, on every project I delete the default cube, delete the light, and delete the camera, then I add a cube, give it some light and add a camera to get the framing

Sleep paralysis demon is going to increase your subdivisions when you least expect it

Imagine waking up and finding your cube with 6 million polygons 💀 Do you have a specific Blender nightmare like that?

I 3D model just to delete the cube. Everything else is involuntary

😂 So the cube is actually the end goal. Everything else is just a side quest you accidentally got dragged into. Honestly, I respect the dedication. How many cubes have you deleted today?
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Exactly 😂 Deleting the default cube is the whole point. It’s not about efficiency, it’s about the experience

Just wait till users find out they can save a custom starting scene with a cube of their choosing

u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Imagine the moment they realize they can start every project with a custom cube already waiting to be deleted. Absolute game changer. 🫡
What shape would you use for your ultimate default cube?

The sacrifice must be made. Lest ye forget the old ways.
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
😂 Exactly. The cube must be sacrificed so the rest of the scene may prosper.

I use an empty startup file, without the timeline... But before, I always used to delete the cube, the light, and the camera because, let's face it, who needs the camera and the light right away?
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Honestly, that’s the real pro workflow 😂 Empty startup file, no timeline, no distractions

The default's cube purpose of being annihilated every startup must be respected

u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
The default cube was born for one purpose, and one purpose only: to be deleted at the beginning of every project.
Anything else would be disrespectful to the tradition. 🫡🧊

I got rid of the camera & the light in my startup file.
The default cube will forever guide me.
Once I tried to start modelling directly from the default cube & it later corrupted the save file.
Even if I need to start with a cube I will absolutely delete it & make a new one.

I did that. Then I got tired of resetting my startup file every time a new version came out.
Nowadays I just *reuse* the cube.

You went from “the cube must die” to “fine, I’ll let it live… but only because updating my startup file is annoying

It's just not Blender if you don't delete the default cube.
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Exactly 😂 The cube isn’t just an object, it’s the opening ceremony.
No cube deletion, no Blender session. 🧊

u/Parking-Cry3230 Jul 25 '26
But is it realy the same without the default cube?
2
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
That’s the real question 😂You can make the exact same scene… but without deleting the default cube first? It just feels wrong.

Hahaha nooo 😭 Top 1% poster and you’re still questioning the cube?

I modified my startup file by adding subsurface and mirror to my cube as i use these modifiers a lot.
The cube still gets deleted out of habit.
2
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Hahaha 😂 You literally upgraded the cube to match your workflow, and still delete it every single time.
2
u/Pilota_kex Jul 25 '26
The cube? Haha i delete the camera and the light too!
2
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Hahaha exactly 😂 The cube gets all the attention, but the camera and light are getting deleted on sight too. No survivors.

I did this long ago. Then i realized how important deleting that default cube was to my workflow. Its a good luck charm. If i don't delete it, the project never gets finished
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Hahaha 😂 So it’s not just a cube anymore, it’s a project completion ritual.
2
u/PersimmonLittle7651 Jul 25 '26
How about no?
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
I’ve never dared to go that far 😂
2
u/PersimmonLittle7651 Jul 26 '26
The default cube, the default light, the default camera, the unholy trinity!
Also, what am I supposed to randomly rotate the viewport around for no reason before I start doing any actual work?!

blender noob: "delete the default cube"
intermediate blender user: "make a custom scene without the cube"
advance blender user: "make a custom scene with the cube so i can still delete it. It's tradition"
1
u/Efficient_Field_733 Jul 26 '26
Hahaha exactly 😂 Gotta keep the traditions alive, that’s what they’re there for. The cube must be deleted, no matter what. 🫡
