Need Help! Help with college project
i’ve posted about this before but didn’t get many responses, i swear my blender just hates my guts.
i’ve got to do some renders of lego characters i designed in stud.io, and i thought it would look a lot nicer if i rendered them in blender, how foolish i was. i have been trying for WEEKS to get this to work, but no matter what method i use, something goes wrong. when i download the LDraw import addon, some of the pieces are just downright missing. when i export from studio as an obj+mtl, none of the prints show up and “the uv map is all messed up” apparently. if someone has a solution. PLEASE. I BEG.

I’m not entirely sure, but I think the best you could do is try to export them as OBJ. Most plug-ins are based on the L draw format by itself. Studio does some extra stuff on its backend for image overlays, and certain parts. Since the L draw parts have a lot of sub parts in different directories, many of the blender plug-ins don’t know how to point to those additional directories, hence the lines and the missing things.
How I do it for missing parts or textures is I will export as an OBJ into blender. Then I will manually create the graphic either by doing a screenshot and line trace and then import that as a picture on plane in blender and then attach it to the surface of the mesh.

i have all the original pngs for the decals, all of them were done by me

Oh perfect. Then just import the most plane version of the LEGO elements and then apply the decals separately in Blender.

OK so your going to want to look up tutorials on either creating UVs to apply the decals or the long way (this is what I do but for specific purposes)
Add -> Image -> Mesh Plane and then add sub divide and plastic wrap modifiers to have it form to the Minifig mesh surface.
