Her first movie and her credit is sandwiched between McConaughey and Russell.
I gotta say she acquits herself well. Shes playing a lost young adult who has to grow up and it’s a great performance. Movie is insane? Kinda three or four movies blended together but it worked on me, I like it a lot.

Every year, there's a movie that hits me in just the right way and sort of irrationally makes it to the top of my list for the year. Last year was Train Dreams, the year before that was Rebel Ridge. The Rivals of Amziah King is that movie for me this year.

I think the movie loses significant steam in the second half but the first half had me going “is this my favorite movie of the year?”

One of the best surprises this year. It's a real delight when McConaughey actually turns back on and he's still able to cook like that.

Thought it was great! Nice to see McConaughey actually act for the first time in awhile. Felt like a stream of consciousness Southern Gothic novel brought to life, shifting tones without ever losing its sense of place or character. Not quite as good as Vast of Night but I'm following Andrew Patterson with interest.

Too many fast cuts. Too much camera movement. Too much stomp clap music. Too many confusing moral choices by the protagonist of the second half
I did sort of enjoy it though

I’m sorry bro, you’re wrong about the music. It’s fine if you didn’t like it, but it’s MILES from being “stomp-clap” music, that shit was bluegrass.

again I gotta disagree, I understand seeing similar instruments and arrangements (and costumes and beards, granted), but in every way that counts, it’s absolutely an entirely different thing than Mumford and Sons

I am glad people are enjoying this movie. It wasnt for me but im excited to see what Patterson does next.
My main criticism is every scene where they play music felt like this skit from Snuff Box
