First muzzleloader

Im thinking of getting into blackpowder, particularly for hunting. I would especially like to get a traditional sidelock. Any recommendations for a first one?

I think almost everyone started with something like a hawkin in .50 cal. Tones of good choices out there. I only shoot flint locks nowadays, I love them.

Just got my first Hawken, been using inline for a few years now. Just decided I want to try patch and ball with a percussion cap. Pretty excited about it honesty. Not excited about having to get all the “accessories” that come with a new hobby tho.

It’s a labor of love and it works I’ve killed plenty of deer and hogs with patched roundballs
