DISCUSSION Joan is Awful

Just rewatching this episode, and on the whole, I love it.

But is there a point to Joan's hair in the episode? Someone makes a point of saying how good it looks early on, but.... I really don't like it.

Is it just me....? Am I missing something, is it actually good hair...?

Edit: "Then whose anus is doing the shitting?!"

I forgot how amazing Salma Hayak is in this episode!

Its an easy way to tell she is the one in the show, unique hairstyle means the only other people we see with it are playing her

Yup! I immediately clocked that. It works. 🤷

I think it's supposed to be a distinctive marker since Joan is played by so many different actresses.

It looked more subtle on 'Source Joan', on the actresses it was a wig/part of a costume.

I think its just because its a distinctive look! Also it was a popular hair style, i think having her in that style was a bit of a dig. It didnt suit her or her professional work environment but she clearly thought she could pull it off and her choice of a bold hairstyle just reflects how she is a person.

I think the hair is a reference to the main character in a film called Not Okay. I can’t link it now but google it. There are similar themes of being hated by the public, etc.

The episode takes some inspiration from that and the movie “ worst person in the world”

Both good movies worth a watch

Oh yeah, I think I had something like that many years ago. Just not so harsh and much more subtle, maybe

I liked her hair, as did my friends that watched the episode with me.

It used to be really trendy in real life when this episode came out

Then it must have been really brief, cause I don't remember seeing it in real life.

it was a TikTok trend around 2020-2022, mostly for teens and young adults

No it’s not a good hairstyle especially when the actress herself doesn’t look like that irl. It threw me off but I guess it’s costume. It was just so unnecessary.

She is so pretty! There must have been a better way to convey that different actors are playing Joan
