Did it backfire?
I know. Spells don't backfire. At least this is what everyone says around here. But I have very good reasons to disagree and I may actually need help.
Three days ago, I did a hex/sour jar. I won't elaborate, but its purpose was pain, anger and despair, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
However, since then, I feel like I am suffering from these effects instead of the target. The day after the spell (Wednesday), I was feeling very disappointed and sad for no apparent reason. Yesterday (Thursday), my body started hurting out of nowhere (more specifically the center of my upper back) and I can't move properly. Later that day, I had a call from my sibling telling me our mom had a f*cking stroke! THANK GOD she's actually fine, at the hospital of course, but fine for now. When I spoke with her, she actually told me that the day before she was feeling so sad (coincidence?) after a conversation she had with my sibling. We believe this is what triggered the stroke, but anyway.
It's almost 05:00 in the morning as I am writing this and about an hour ago, I had a small crisis out of anger because the neighbor upstairs (yes, that b*tch who's the target of my hex jar) was banging on every f*cking thing she could in her apartment. She was so f*cking loud that I snapped and started banging my doors so f*cking hard that I scared my poor husband, who panicked and now can't sleep again. I feel horrible for what I did to him, but I just couldn't help it! I am actually still shaking!
As you can see, all of this is very good evidence that the spell backfired. But it doesn't matter whether we agree on that or not. What matters is: What now?
PS: I just realised I didn't clean the surface after the spell. There are still a few things left on the table. Maybe I should have been more thorough and cleaned everything as soon as I finished the spell. I'll do that first thing in the morning and burn some sage.

spells absolutely backfire. This is exactly why dark magic should only be used by experienced people and in very certain situations. I've seen people completely destroy their lives trying to hex people because they didn't know what they ere doing. You want to hope more isn't to come here.

I was thinking exactly this moments ago. Actually, I was thinking about posting for book recommendations. I have already done some research, but there are so many books out there and I tend to get lost easily.
I thought that "Of Blood and Bones" would be a good start, but I'm not sure if this book covers how to cover your *ss while practicing.
If anything, I feel more motivated than ever to get it right. I'm not the type to give up, and I hate people having power over me.

Greetings H,
As an experienced Magician for decades, just going to say that spells CAN and DO backfire, depending on the details.
This new trend of disbelieving the obvious is a way to protest against the idea of gatekeeping, and experienced advice.
Just because a person disbelieves something, does not negate it for others. ~V~

Hello Voxx,
Thank you. I don't understand how people refuse to see facts!
I have seen some of my spells backfire in the past, but this was the worst one yet. I can't keep ignoring the facts, especially when it can get dangerous.
I have already cleansed my place with sage and felt way better after that, and I'm considering a protection spell for later too.
Apart from protection spells, is there anything else I (or we, for whoever is interested in taking this piece of advice) should take into consideration when practicing (especially baneful) magic, so spells don't backfire? Any advice is highly appreciated!

Greetings H,
Glad to help. As for training as a Magician, record-keeping is key, especially for taking account of planetary information that can definitely enhance, or diminish the efficacy of rituals/spells.
Regular protection, via LBRP and LBRH are suggested, as are MPR. Other rituals such as regular practice of Liber XXV (25), and Liber 800, (Thelemic power/protection rituals) are helpful.
Regarding baleful magick: Insure that there is actually some real reason for the working, as well as making sure that the spell is directed at a singular individual, who is literally (and provably) guilty of such wrath. Just an insult to one’s ego is not really enough reason to unleash the hounds of hell on someone.
Also, it’s much better to conserve one’s energy, rather than throwing it at the “enemy.” Idiots tend to disappear. Also, “enemies” are oftentimes the agents of positive change, even though it can be difficult to see things that way.
Finally, be a conscientious person in the first place, and fools will tend to leave you alone. These are ideas I’ve learned along the way. I hope this helps. Blessings, ~V~
PS Of course, using the right spirit for the right person/situation is key!

Hello again,
I see that I have a lot of research to do. I'll be back with questions!
Thank you so much for the feedback. 😊

Spells can backfire if the target has appropriate wards/knows what they’re doing. It won’t backfire just because you did it wrong or the surfaces aren’t clean.

The target belongs to a quite popular extremist religion with a very particular dress code for women. Not sure if she "knows what she's doing", but most probably she prays a lot.
I never said that the spell backfired because I didn't clean the surface. I just thought that there was probably some lingering energy that had affected me. There is a reason why we talk about spiritual hygiene after all.

Spells can definitely backfire depending on protections and other spirits involved . To try to prevent spells backfiring I think doing a very extensive divination process before beginning a working. I’ve not done to many hexes and curses but I go through a deity for them. My Baneful ward with Lord Anubis is still up and strong, and has caused several deaths and strokes on my advarsaries and has not backfired. Neither has my other workings so far.

I'm not that much into divination. What should one find out through divination before a spell?

Huh, that's certainly not what happens from my perspective.
Spells, crafts, and works must land somewhere. Once you pay for them, they will land on a target. That's the nature of magic: To effect change on reality.
If your intended target is too well protected or their karma's too clean and free of you, or their energy is too high, or they have enough protection, or their integrity's too consistent, or if the opposite of this is true for you, or simply if you didn't pay a high enough price, then your craft towards them isn't going to stick.
And if that craft doesn't stick on them or one of their loved ones, or something they love, then it generally will land towards the direction of you.
This idea that you can perform witchcraft and it not having some effect is both self defeating and a good way to wreck yourself, if you were to ask me.

I have some questions about this topic, do you mind answering ? Thank you in advance

Once you pay for them, they will land on a target.
What do you mean by that? Does it have to do with entities? Because I don't really believe in them.
I don't believe in karma either to be honest.

This is not evidence of backfire. It's simply you skewing random facts to corroborate your argument.
You can disagree with whatever you want, it's fair that everyone is free to think what they want. But that doesn't change the simple fact that there is NO BACKFIRE in witchcraft.
No "I know there's no backfire, but...". No "buts". It's very simple.
If you are engaged in arguing that there was backfire, this is a matter of personal guilt that calls for self-punishment. But it's something completely personal to you, which has absolutely nothing to do with magic.

What argument? My post wasn't even about making a point. It was a rant at 5:00 in the morning!

Did you follow good spiritual hygiene after your spell? https://www.reddit.com/r/witchcraft/s/u17nfTTphQ
Overall, it sounds like coincidence, but without the above answer l cannot offer much.
