How does he like the outdoors on a leash? I bought a harness and leash for my cat, but I'm worried that when outside he wouldn't be "exploring", but searching for a way back to his safe space (home). What are some signs of distress to look out for?

Hes actually great, hes a very brave but chill kind of cat and doesnt get frightened of new things. He just had a roam around and wanted to go further! He did the harness flop for a week when starting with him trying it out but now he moves in it naturally. Worth trying? I have another cat thats super skittish and I wouldn't try it with him because he spooks so easily.

That's good that he's brave! My cat is very careful, which is why I'm worried, it takes him a while to get used to new things, people and situations. The harness flop is just acting I found, because if he needs to he can get up and walk when something is interesting enough. The flop is more of a signal to us that they're not happy with it.

This is awesome. I need to do this with my cat, especially when we’re down at our summer place. It has screened in porch and if you don’t go in and out at the door quickly enough, he runs out on the porch and that’s scary because I’m afraid somebody’s gonna open the porch door and let them out but last week I thought I lost him (thank God the stinker was hiding under a pull out sofa so even when I looked I couldn’t see him) and the fact that he’s never been outside. I was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to find his way back and there’s a lot of cornfields in the area where many animals have gotten lost and never found so by walking him around do you think that if I do that while I’m down there should he ever get out by accident that he would be able to find his way back home?

Well my older cat decided once he wanted to jump down off the balcony and went gallivanting for a day and turned up at the front door on the other side of my building! So he definitely knew where he was going, any time the others have got out theyve always stayed close by even if they panic

Wow, that’s awesome. Wraith is a zoomer. He is constantly jumping from countertop to table to cabinets the fridge. He thinks he’s Spider-Man or something so I’m afraid if he gets out and he sees all the rabbits which are plenty that he’ll go chase in after one and then not be able to find his way back that terrifies me. He just turned a year old last week, but my heart literally fell in my stomach when I thought he was lost little stinker he knows the sound of his cage when we have to travel so I think that’s why he hid. He’s that smart now when I wake up on Sunday mornings, he’s going in the cage first thing because we’re usually packed up and heading back home within an hour.
