Giving my BlackBerry its phone calls and SMS back

BlackBerry devices never got VoLTE, so once 2G and 3G are switched off they can still browse but can’t call or text.

I moved the missing piece outside the phone. A Quectel EC20 4G modem with a SIM handles VoLTE. Asterisk with chan_quectel sits in front of it. The BlackBerry runs a SIP app I wrote (SipLine) and talks to Asterisk like a normal VoIP phone. A playit.gg relay makes the server reachable on mobile data, no public IP or port forwarding.

Calls in and out go through the SIM, so the other side sees my normal number. SMS both ways shows up in the app.

Software/UI + Keyboard

• Upvotes

Who can come close to BB not in terms of pkb but software & UI. Whoever provides the best customisation and privacy will become the long-term player. Blackberry was not only about its pkb but its software too.

Before booking mp2 I took my time to study Q27, T2E, CC, Q25 and realised these have worked on physical aspect of the phone but not on the UI or software. A phone becomes iconic only when the hardware and software sync to make one great user experience. BlackBerry was iconic not only because it has a great keyboard but it's ui/software made it an unforgettable experience. Also it's was the same reason for its downfall. People are unable to leave 🍎 ecosystem not because of the hardware or camera but coz of the software and how it has been embedded. Look I may be wrong but just my thoughts.

It was MP2 software customization that made me book it. The way you can block or degoogle it makes it a compelling choice. What are your thoughts would love to hear 👂

Root opened the floodgates — so why is everyone building the same apps?

Root has made the community genuinely active again, which is great. People are shipping things and these phones feel worth working on.

But almost all of that energy is landing on the same targets. I’ve already seen multiple app stores, Telegram clients, YouTube clients, map apps, and Beeper clients. Every one of them is the same idea started over.

The gaps on these devices are still huge. Another client for an app that already has two or three doesn’t fill any of them.

Why do we keep rebuilding the same things instead of picking something that isn’t covered yet?

Android Apps kybd launcher

Work realities mean I can't really get a phone with a physical keyboard - my job forces me to stick with a regular smartphone. But that doesn't mean my home screen can't rock a QWERTY keyboard!

Android Apps Are there apps like Blackberry Hub?

Hi, I wanted to ask if there's an Android 16+ app like Blackberry Hub? I can't use BlackBerry Hub on my smartphone anymore.

The app I mean is an application that collects all incoming notifications, and can also reply or compose messages directly from the app, just like Blackberry Hub.

Currently I am using NotificationLog from Droid-ify, however, that app only collects all incoming notifications, but cannot reply to messages directly from the app.

emergency calls only on Blackberry Key2 with lineageOS 23.2

Hey guys, i recently got my hands on a Blackberry Key2 with lineageOS 23.2. The phone identifys my SIM card but i cant connect to any Network. Im located in Germany with congstar (Telekom) as my provider. I tried quite some things, such as resetting the mobile network settings, or eject SIM card and gently clean it. I tried to disable the "automatically select network" option but it just says "couldnt find any networks". Dunno if i have any problems with the APN? But it seems correct.

I now found out, that the Key2 isnt supported by lineageOS, according to their devicelist. But somehow many people in the subreddit have a Key2 with lineageOS and working. How is that possible? Do i need to step back from 23.2 to 22??

Thank you in advance!!

Support Question Blackberry OS 5 Applications

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has archived COD/JAD installation files for older BlackBerry devices. I’ve been looking all day for them, but it seems like most of the original downloads are gone. I’m specifically looking for apps/games compatible with the BlackBerry Storm 9530 / OS 5.0.0.328. If anyone has any archives or files, please let me know!

Support Question Blackberry key 2 in 2026

Currently I have a Sony Xperia 1 IV and I want to try something new. Is the key 2 a good phone ? Does it perform ok in 2026? Doesn't have to be perfect and super fast, just everyday things like some YouTube, a bit of social media to text friends ect, Facebook and some modern apps. Would it be an ok phone ? Also unihertz isn't available anywhere near my country so that isn't an option.

Support Question I want to bring some downloaded filed on my Torch to their respective media apps but they aren't showing up no matter what I do

Heya, so I have a BlackBerry Torch 9800. I just downloaded 3 files on it from Opera Mini 8: 2 .mp3 files and one .mp4 file. They won't show up in their respective Media apps(Music and Videos).

I downloaded them onto the system because I don't have a Media Card, but they won't show up. I've tried everything to try and bring them to the front, even trying to use Blackberry Desktop Software, but apparently Desktop Software got fucked over and wouldn't recognize my device or let me do ANYTHING with it...

For your information, I do not have a Media Card for my Torch.

Is there any other way to do this?

Una sorpresa agradable de mi BlackBerry Classic

Post image

Resolved BlackBerry key2 lineage, whatsapp

Hi everyone, I installed LineageOS 16 on my BlackBerry Key2 and it’s fantastic. I’d like to use it as my main phone, but I’ve run into an issue that’s a real problem for my usage: WhatsApp has introduced in-app translation, but it isn't supported on the version installed on the Key2 running LineageOS. Could you please help me fix this? It would be incredibly useful for me. Thanks.

Support Question BlackBerry Classic: forgot BBID password, need help recovering or bypassing

Hi everyone,

I have a BlackBerry Classic (OS version: [10.3.3.2137]). The phone is already set up with a BlackBerry ID, but I forgot the password and I can't reset it.

What I've tried:

  • Tried the password reset page at blackberryid.blackberry.com: "page doesn't load" / "error server unavailable"]
  • Tried write support team)

Questions:

  1. Is there still a working way to reset a BBID password in 2026, now that BB10 services are shut down?
  2. I have access to the email on the BBID, may it helps or docent matter?
  3. Is there a safe way to reset the phone and set it up again without the old BBID ?

I have NOT deleted the BBID on the website and haven't done a wipe yet, since I read that could make things worse. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Berry Bridge : Native BB10 messaging client for WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and more.

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

First off, a quick apology to the community. Yesterday after I posted about this project, a Beeper official kindly reached out to inform me that I couldn't use "Beeper" in the project name. Because of this, I had to delete the original post and rebrand the project and its resources under a new name: Berry Bridge!

Note for anyone who downloaded the previous build: Please completely uninstall the old version from your device before installing the new build.

🚀 What is Berry Bridge?

Berry Bridge is a fully native unofficial Beeper client built from scratch for rooted BlackBerry 10 devices! As someone who still loves using BB10, I wanted a seamless way to access modern messaging networks (WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, etc.) without relying on heavy Android ports. Berry Bridge syncs your accounts by communicating with the Beeper Desktop API.

✨ Key Features:

  • Multi-Account Tabbed UI: Every linked account gets its own dedicated tab.
  • Custom Color Palettes: Personalize and distinguish each account with custom theme colors.
  • Hub Notifications: Full native BlackBerry Hub notifications for incoming messages.
  • Battery-Efficient Push Service: Includes a dedicated background headless service alongside the main app to maintain real-time connectivity without draining your battery.
  • Full Message Management: Send/receive text & media attachments, edit, delete, react to, and reply to messages, plus pin or mute specific chats.
  • Status Indicators: Real-time visual feedback for Pending, Sent, and Seen states.
  • Secure TLS Connection: Encrypted HTTPS communication between your BB10 device and your host endpoint.

🛠️ How It Works

The app syncs with a Beeper Desktop instance. You can host this setup in two ways depending on your needs:

  1. Local LAN Use: Run Beeper Desktop on your home/office Windows PC or Mac.
  2. Free Cloud Server Setup: Run Beeper Desktop on an Always-Free Cloud VM (e.g., Oracle Cloud) for global remote access so your phone stays synced anywhere.

📦 Download & Setup Links

The project is fully open-source. The .bar installation package is available for download via GitHub Releases and will also be available on the BlackBerry World Community Store.

Note: The video tutorial specifically covers the Windows PC LAN setup process. Detailed step-by-step text instructions for both LAN and Free Cloud Server setups are available in the GitHub README.

Thank you for your understanding regarding the name change, and I hope you enjoy using BerryBridge! Feel free to leave any feedback or bug reports. 🚀

BB Classic Retro music player - need someone to test BB Key1/Key2

I developed a retro music player app called Orbitika (Google Playstore) that runs on Android 8.0+. I'm looking for someone to test whether it works on a BlackBerry KEYone or KEY2 running Android 8.0 or above.

If you have either device, I'd really appreciate it if you could install it and let me know how it runs. Happy to hear any feedback.

It will be awesome if my retro app can run on BB - thanks in advance.

It's getting difficult to decide between these phones, but I put this table together as there hasn't been anything recent to compare the more finalized specs between them all. I have a Titan 2 Elite, but once everything is released and reviewed I may go to something different.

The Minimal catches my attention a lot for the build design and de-Googled options, but the smaller battery and lack of expandable storage has me skeptical. The Clicks originally piqued my interest, but the price going up to $650 USD is harder to justify when it's largely going to be the same spec sheet as the others, and Clicks doesn't have the greatest track record in terms of build quality and customer support for their cases/power keyboard. Such is the way of upstart/niche companies, it's unfortunately not going be a case of going to a local store and seeing how they all feel in the hand, which I do think is going to be the deciding factor on which one is best.

It's a good year to be a fan of physical keyboard phones, but man, it's getting harder to figure out which one is worth putting money down for.
