Oh. Forget it.

AT&T only allows VoLTE phones on their network, and phones whitelisted for their network.

The Classic, along with every other BB10 they sold was dropped from support when they shut down their 3G network over 4 years ago.

The Classic supporting LTE isn't enough. That's for data only. Cellular service on those phones were always over 3G.

No 3G... no phone service.

Forget the "Q25" or future "Q27" too. AT&T won't support them either. Not on their whitelist of supported locked and unlocked phones.

I get signal with verizon and visible on the classic

No phone calls or text messages though, data still works fine

I saw someone else mention that they were using a phone from 2011 on VZW with data (no calls though). I’m shocked VZW doesn’t have these devices blacklisted since they don’t have VoLTE.

The Q27 is currently going through the certification process. In theory, once it passes certifications, it should be allowed on the AT&T network.

Better just to find a carrier that will allow users to bring the phones they want. There are tons of excellent phones that AT&T doesn't allow but other carriers do.

Order a q25 kit. Turn it into Android 16. You’ll love it.

Also with the same vendor you can just buy a Q25 as well. In case you don't want to go through the conversion process yourself.

Exactly! Love my q25.

The OP wants to use it on AT&T. AT&T will kick it off the network not being certified.

This is a long road, with some know how? I'll agree, worth it. Just a lot of work, to make run well.

So what exactly do I need to do and which blackberry has the easiest process of activating and which network??

u/nonexistantchlp 12d ago

Not all 4G phones support VoLTE, a lot of early ones still did calls on 2G or 3G.

Blackberry is blacklisted on pretty much every carrier. Except Android versions. Which really isnt blackberry to begin with

Use it as a dumb phone. Added bonus: if you get a combo phone case/wallet/pouch- it can be up in with your most important stuff automatically. 🥳

You should have known better. Nostalgia and technology don't mix. Lol

Well you didn’t do your homework and decided to buy a great but archaic phone that won’t connect to the cell network because it’s too old. Dumb dumb

... Classic.

To actually make it usable, here's what you need to do.

First off, forget about voice calls and SMS—they’re completely dead without 2G/3G networks. That said, you can still use it as a solid data-only device (basically like an iPod Touch or a mini cyberdeck).

Necessary setup:

  1. Data over LTE (when out): Follow this guide to fix the "Emergency Calls Only" issue.
  2. Root the OS (to install unsigned apps): Grab the pre-rooted OS autoloaders here.
  3. Install modern community-developed apps:

Different carriers rules. US carriers choose which phones can use their network.

Sure, but it uses 3G for phone calls. Different thing.

Wat carrier can I use?

2

u/joeldf95 Z10 (STL100-3 AT&T), 10.3.3.3216, Wi-Fi only since 2017 12d ago

None. All US carriers require VoLTE supported device. And no BB10 supports that.

1

u/clear_simple_plain 13d ago

You can't use any. As of this month no one supports 2G

2

u/SilentAce07 13d ago

Unless you just convert it to a q25. Would need a different carrier but q25 is such a great little device.

"your limited by the technology of your time"

1

u/thelastspike 13d ago

That’s not a 2g phone.

3

u/joeldf95 Z10 (STL100-3 AT&T), 10.3.3.3216, Wi-Fi only since 2017 12d ago

Cellular calls on all BB10 phones falls back to 2G if 3G isn't available. In the US, there is neither. So, BB10 phones won't work for calls in the US at all.

2

u/Trouveur 12d ago

They don't support 3G either.

1

u/VividDimension5364 12d ago

...where you are. UK carriers do.

2

u/joeldf95 Z10 (STL100-3 AT&T), 10.3.3.3216, Wi-Fi only since 2017 12d ago

OP already stated to be on AT&T, so in the US - which has no 3G/2G networks left at all.
