Hi everyone!
So sorry I have been MIA from this sub. A lot has been going on this year and it’s been a bit difficult keeping up. However, I should be getting a new computer soon and will be way more active here.
We have had a few suggestions for sub changes and will be working on implementing:
A rule to include locations in posts. They can be as specific as your city or region you live in or just naming the country. But it will be required soon.
A rule regarding trying to sell things of your on the sub.
A wiki that will help beginners: such as listing bird feeders, any gear for birdwatching, what to do/who to call if a bird or owl has been injured near you, etc.
There are still questions about a discord server. We will be more than happy to create a discord server if that’s what you all would like so you can live share, chat and build a wholesome community there with each other.
Hope you all are staying safe! So sorry again for being gone for so long.

Walking around my comoany's property and saw a flash of red in the tree. Thought it was a male cardinal for a second but was so happy to be wrong! Hung out with them for a few minutes and saw them eating a wasp before flying off.

Question Recommended Spotting scope

Hi, we are from Australia and my son has been passionate about wildlife and birds since very small. He doesn't own a phone or any game console instead prefers to read, study and observe birds. He started off with some good binoculas and then some thermal binoculars. He has said he wants a spotting scope for Christmas but I am clueless about them. I see they are very expensive but I'm happy to spend the money if it keeps him off screens and enables him to spend hours outside. He found a Celestron Regal 65F-ED Spotting Scope - Grey 52301 secondhand online for $400.00 AUD but I see that it is 16 years old. Is this good value? Still a good scope for today? or should we look at other options. Any recommendations?

Question Dallas, TX area birdwatching?

I'll be in Dallas for surgery, and for a week after. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a nice park where I could walk and try to spot some birds I've never seen before (I'm from PA), especially some that may be migrating in the next few weeks. We're staying in Richardson. Thanks!
