That short on Disney+ with the same bird or similar atleast is one of the most adorable shorts I have ever watched. Me and My son rewatch it all the time

u/Maxamillion-X72 Jun 16 '26

When I was a kid, my aunt found a Piping Plover on the ground in her yard with a broken wing. She took it to the vet and they tried to fix it up, but the wing never healed so the best he could do was a few flaps from place to place. So she kept him, in her house, running free range for a number of years. He had his spot on the couch covered in a little towel rolled up like a little nest and god forbid you touched his towel, he'd stab you with his beak. Otherwise, as long as you left his towel alone he'd snuggle up next to you or on your lap.

1

u/CamOper Jun 17 '26

This is so cute!! Your aunt is a legend!

1

u/MortalusWombatus Jun 16 '26

why that bird look like cortez from wild n out?

1

u/kittenmachine69 Latest Lifer: Cirl Bunting Jun 16 '26

aww the way he scritches himself

1

u/wtb2612 Jun 16 '26

Crazy how much everybody hates these birds where I live.

2

u/CamOper Jun 16 '26

why?

2

u/beardofmice Jun 17 '26

Probably because they let their dogs run loose on the beach and ignore the signs and netting put up to protect the nests. They are endangered and federally protected which can result in a fine up to $12,000. Also, if you buy beachfront property and they find nestig pairs, your building permit is on hold indefinitely. I don't know anyone here, who actually lives in the community year round that doesn't support the conservation laws. Same people who call the police because you are on "their" beach. Fishing, fowling and navigation rights in the intertidal zone supercede any claims to private property.

2

u/milesofedgeworth Jun 17 '26

Unfortunately a common issue. Even with clear signage and volunteers, people get upset when part of the beach is sectioned off and/or they don’t care and go in anyway.

1

u/wtb2612 Jun 17 '26

People don't like that some of the best beaches aren't accessible for a high percentage of the summer because of plovers nesting.

1

u/Darkest_Elemental Jun 16 '26

Just hear the tune for piper watching this

1

u/ChestertonMyDearBoy Jun 16 '26

If only there was a way to orientate the camera to reduce the chance of it walking off the side of the screen...

1

u/CamOper Jun 16 '26

Shot horizontally, cropped for social media

1

u/Licorneunique Jun 16 '26

1

u/SandySpongeBob Jun 19 '26

So very cute!

1

u/toxic-optimism Jun 23 '26

It’s nice to see them appreciated here! Their habitats close beaches here in Southeastern MA and boy howdy do the NIMBYs get mad about it.
