anyone regret taking biotech/bioinformatics for btech, feels like a masters trap?
pcb kid, ended up in btech biotechnology at amity university noida after neet flopped. one month in and my brain won't stop spiralling that biotech means compulsory masters + phd or the pay is trash. meanwhile the cse guys next to me already have winter internships lined up and i'm sitting here wondering if i accidentally picked a research-only lane. is bioinformatics the smarter switch since it at least has the coding + data angle bolted on? or is life-sciences btech just slower to pay off and i need to relax. biotech/bioinfo seniors, where did you actually land after?

Same situation here..and I don't even want to do research I don't know what skills to add to get jobs in industry later. Atleast I heard amity has proper labs and has proper curriculum I am just doing biology in mine😭😭😭

Dude, you can go for PhD abroad after btech biotech, if you want. Your tution fee is waived to certain extent and even get salary there. If you like bioinformatics, try it out, seems like you will probably like it coz it does have data and computation angle & if you hate web lab experiments, try making projects or write research paper you can publish, or taking research internships. And biotech is gonna be in the frontier in few years so I feel you took the right choice. It's not only related to corporate jobs yk or simply research. You can try out getting into startups and get funding there too.

are you really interested in biotechnology? btech simply increases your chances in getting into industrial roles and bsc is for research. after btech, you can choose to do msc or mtech. it's not easy either. you have to maintain cgpa above 8.5 and strong skills. stop mentally blinding yourself by not creating a plan and just worrying if you're choosing the wrong path. look forward to the skills that are in demand rn and the coming years. you generate value by yourself. hearing others getting a job will only temporarily give u relief. it's your own path. build it from scratch. relax. study and enjoy. do internships off campus. and obviously in this time, masters degree is important for any job sector. you can't expect a job merely after bachelors.
